Last month I took a punt on a quick trip to Bali for Easter assuming Indonesia's quarantine requirements would have eased by then. Appears non-quarantine entry will be available soon, good news.

Same day I received a Qantas email advising they had cancelled my booking. I assumed JQ had canned the flights due to lack of demand. Today while I was going to look at June flights I notice JQ are still operating BNE-DPS flights on the days I've been cancelled. hmmmp. No award availability until May now.

Seems a bit harsh as we already had paid and ticketed award redemption tix.

JQ appear to have been selling 7 days a week flights which they now look to have consolidated to 4 days per week.

I wonder if anyone else on AFF has had Bali flights cancelled.

I noticed this morning on FB JQ's flash sale (Perth to Bali $99) in comments, people had had their flights cancelled for April and couldn't understand why JQ was selling flights when they had cancelled theirs. I don't understand how that works either. Similar problem to you albatross710.

The question is if those flights were cancelled at the time, but had been re-instated after that - possibly when Bali reopening date was more clear? Thus at the time bookings were cancelled was the actual specific flight cancelled (or possibly zero'd out) but since began selling again?

have you seen this happen before?

I'm thinking of grabbing the new fares which interesting work out to $218 with JQ, QF redemption is 36K points plus $240 taxes. So I guess I should be thanking QF.

Have I seen this personally? no

but we've all seen borders open and close at the drop of a hat over the past two years and airlines adjust schedules multiple times.

I mean it seems quite conceivable that, prior to omicron, Bali was slated to open earlier... JQ schedules flights and sells tix... thn Omi hits, they close back down (full disclosure I have no real knowledge of the Bali situation and a quick search seems unhelpful to find facts to support my comment except that it seemed to have multiple dates last year including July and October). Anyway say when Bali announced they would open in October and JQ flights into the schedule, even into March/April this year in anticipation and sold those seats... but then the rules changed again until Feb 4 this year.. so let's sa come October when Bali didn't open as anticipated, with a bunch of flights in the schedule and tickets sold it was clear they weren't opening and future was unclear, so they cancel those flights and bookings. Then come Feb voila.. rules change aain, Bali is back, so flights are put back in (but those bookings are still cancelled of course).. so one could have booked months ago for flights in a few weeks which were cancelled in the meantime, then put back on post that.

Same with PER. Many flights were put on for Feb 5 and beyond.. then WA changed its mind and many of those flights had to be cancelled, then March 3 was the date (and hey they opened) but I am sure there are WA pax in similar situations who may have booked flights in say Jan which were then cancelled, and then potentially reinstated.

just the crazy times we're living in is my basic thought.

I did the redemption on 11 Feb. cancellations flowed through on 1 Mar.

I'm absolutely understanding of the need to optimise schedules based on demand.

Looking at it they dumped the direct BNE-DPS flights and are running the current promo to have another go at generating Bali demand from 1 May
