Evening all,

Travelling on QF448 MEL-SYD with mum tomorrow (1400 dep).

I checked us in earlier but received a text from QF at about 1730 this afternoon advising of cancellation.

According to the QF app AND website the flight is still on time, but if you try and book MEL-SYD tomorrow or friday, there's absolutely nothing between 1300-2100.

Normally I wouldn't post this here, but mum is a nervous traveller, and stresses and freaks out about absolutely everything travel related.

Furthermore, I've been fortunate enough to never experience any actual cancellations before (delays only).

Do we bother rocking up to MEL tomorrow?

None of us can travel before approx 1pm as we have to get the dog off to the kennel and a few other errands. Worried that they will put us on a 0700 flight which would be effectively useless.

Looking for assistance.

Thanks!

If Qantas informed you the flight is cancelled there is no point going to the airport unless, hopefully Qantas rebooked you on a suitable flight. If they have not, its time to spend a few hours on the phone with the call centre and ensure they move you to a flight that is suitable. Ensure they issue an E-Ticket before you hang up. As it is Qantas cancellation, not yours, i believe your options are only to get rebooked or get refunded. Both are not ideal but I dont believe you get any compensation if SYD is your home port.

Should have been rebooked and you should have received new flight details - probably later. Check your booking and/or call.
yes check your 'manage my booking'. I had an email today of cancellation (for a different flight) with no mention of an alternative. However when I checked my booking on line there was an alternative waiting for me to accept or reject.

Everything seems ok. The QF front end it system is still showing the flight "as scheduled", but if you try and book MEL-SYD tomorrow there's nothing bw 1300-2100.

The SMS said that we will be rebooked but nothing yet after 4 hrs 30 mins.

I have planned a few days in MEL this weekend , but Q texted today to advise that the second leg of our MEL-SYD-WTB (Toowoomba) return trip has been cancelled. I think it may have something to do with an engineers’ pay dispute. Q, in their wisdom, rebooked us on the second leg SYD-WTB on the day before the first leg MEL-SYD … work that out ! Only alternative is drive a few hours and to go via BNE, with fares about 30% higher due to lateness in booking. Q call centre totally indifferent to our issue.
