So it looks like Qantas will establishing a cabin crew base in Singapore to be used exclusively for flights to Australia. Australian crew will eventually stop flying to and from Singapore.

120 cabin crew in the first year and then 650 over the next 5 years.

I strongly welcome this initiative. This will make Singapore - Australia flights to receive better service.

Service will definitely improve, the unions will be jumping up and down however.

Over a longer period it wouldn’t surprise me if they start to mirror the JQ model with using offshore crew for international flights. Finnair obviously do it on Asian flights.

Has there ever been a problem with crew? Consistent feedback is how pax feel ‘at home’ the moment they board.

Not a problem as such, more just a higher level of consistency when it comes to service levels from Asian based crews.

That’s not just a QF issue. Customer service in general across the west can leave a lot to be desired at times. Don’t even get me started on retail.

So QF 1/2 will be flown with UK and Singapore crew operating a leg each.

I flew the Finnair wetlease fairly recently - so no ‘teething issues’ or the like - and defo didn’t notice any improvement in service. The crew were slower in economy… with some issues creeping in… like leaving meal trays in front of pax for 30-40 minutes. Well after everyone had finished eating. And didn’t have the same rapport with pax. Maybe it’s because they were Finnair crew and following AY SOPs as opposed to QF?
