Points upgrade or free upgrade?

The title does say points, in which case I would suggest getting a flight that has low J loads and is unlikely to be popular with business travelers.

Apologies - I didnt reread the issue title when I read the question.

Book into as high a fare bucket as you can, choose a mid week flight (lower loads).

Hi 9339,

Welcome to AFF. :D

I'm sure you are aware that Qantas is notoriously stingy in handing out upgrades. The cheaper tickets will cost more points to upgrade and probably have a lower likelihood of an upgrade coming through.
