I'm contemplating using a combination of QF Classic Award points and paid tickets for an upcoming itinerary, and I have two main questions I was hoping someone could please assist with:
1) Cathay offer a PHK-HKG (operated by DragonAir) service, followed by 1:05 connection to their HKG-LAX service. For the PHK-HKG portion, I'd be using Award points. For the HKG-LAX portion I'd be purchasing a ticket (i.e. $$). I'm guessing this means I will end up with 2 separate bookings (1 award points, and 1 paid ticket), rather than a single booking. Hence, will I be able to check in at PHK and have bags checked all the way through to LAX? Are there any other issues I need to mindful of if proceeding with this approach?
2) When using QF Award points to book JQ (in my case, SYD-HKT), what are the entitlements for baggage (how much?), seat selection (can you advance select?), and in-flight services (meals, etc?)? From my reading I'm thinking baggage will be 23kg, but on the others I'm still unclear.
TIA.
