I am trying to get to Vancouver on points in November. When I use the Award bookings part of the QFF website I can only book to LAX or Honolulu - there is no option to non Qantas destinations (oneworld partner destinations). Do I have to ring up? Isn't there a 5000 point charge?

I thought of booking to LAX and then trying to get a cheap flight to Vancouver or Seattle (two hours on the bus from there as I recall) but I don't know. Also I found that for any date in October there are heaps of flights but there wasn't a single flight on any day in November when I checked today. I guess they haven't been released?

Is it best to go SYD-LAX-YVR or SYD-HON-YVR?

Thanks for your help.

If you want to travel to Vancouver with OneWorld then you need to go Via Hong Kong. Cathay fly direct Hong Kong to Vancouver.
Good luck with availability!

Excellent idea to go with Cathay Pacific (CX) via Hong Kong straight to Vancouver. You can avoid the gate naz_s at LAX!

you can't get on the Alaska Airlines flights from LAX to YVR with award points. tried it a couple of months ago. ended up paying a fair on air canada

Horrible flying through the States to get to Vancouver

Hi there, I travel to Vancouver every year and never fly through the States. I usually book my flight on QF to Singapore using award points, then I purchase an e-ticket on SQ (www.singaporeair.com) which flies from Singapore to Seoul (1hour stop over) and then onto Vancouver. You may have to stay overnight in Singapore, but the food is great. I find that the SQ flight is very comfortable and it only cost $1300 including taxes. Even if you book a year in advance with awards its unlikely that you would clinch a flight to LAX on QF, and besides, you cannot use award points between LAX to YVR.

Thanks for the info. Have finally booked an award flight to LAX (pre May 25) so unfortunately have to deal with the Storm Troopers. It's funny how you can select all these destinations on-line when trying to book an award flight but you can't fly to some of them!

I remembered I've got about 30 000 points with United so I hope that can get me to YVR.
