My Niece was getting married and I was giving her away but couldn't get there till the morning of the wedding, so flew over on a Brazilian Fair and made the arrangements and fitting for suit etc otherwise would not have been able to do it. I wanted to surprise her and pay for part of the wedding hence just the day.

That's awesomely stylish. Best day ever!

Potentially flying Y both ways in such a short space of time... As much as I love flying I'd hate to do that. Hope you get your upgrade and either way that you enjoy the experience.
I did the QF9/QF10 MEL-LHR-MEL back in January. I survived fine, but that was in an A388 - not sure how the B789 would go ...

We are discussing this at home today. I used to do the SQ A340 from SiN to LAX direct but that was 100 seat all business class. I don’t think we could go back to Y for 17 hours.

I kney SQ did fly all J SIN-EWR, I didn't know it was regularly scheduled for LAX as well.
SQ used to operate non stop to LAX and EWR with A340s in all J config, but the aircraft were fuel hogs and the routes weren't viable with the available aircraft/config. SQ is restarting both routes this year with A350ULRs, though UA has already started CA-SIN with 787s.

Yes Serfty that Flight started my dalliance with going to Singapore to fly to Los Angeles in business class on Kris Miles. One time I forgot to select a seat and I ended up down the back. It was still a lovely flight.

Before SIN-LAX and SIN-EWR on SQ went all business class they were business + economy class (both with more pitch than normal). I flew the inaugural SIN-LAX, SIN-EWR and EWR-SIN flights.

SQ now has SIN-SFO nonstop, and plans for further ULH including resumption of LAX and NYC nonstop flights.

Let us know if you book this. These are the flights I'm on so plenty of chances to meet up along the way.

I've done some "narrow seat" Y trips down to AU lately (EK 777 3-4-3 to BNE and both JQ & Scoot 3-3-3 787 to MEL) and 7 hrs I was at the end of my tether. Yet I've happily done longer trips on SQ (eg SIN-LHR) and CX (JFK-HKG) on "wider seat" Y (3-3-3 777's) and absolutely no problem, evening finding enough room to comfortably work on my laptop for most of the SIN-LHR flight.

I would happily do the trip JL's long haul 787's with 2-4-2 . But for 17 hrs the 3-3-3 on this aircraft is just too cramped.

See you in the lounge Jessica and good luck with the upgrade request I have one in too. I shall be in the lounge from around 6 pm

Does anybody know if there is much award J availability on QF9/10 Going forward? I'm guessing they need to sell as many seats as possible to cover costs so probably why I only see economy availability. I'm only a silver tier FF though.

I’d be interested in getting people’s views on this - I had a look at some dates 11-12 months out and couldn’t see any J award availability.
Anyone else had any luck (or tried to request release of seats)?

I have two rewards seats booked in J for early November LHR-PER. They were only released after Qantas lost my Qatar seats on a similar route but it does seem possible to have them released if you can get hold of the right person!
