Can anyone confirm what the SC earn rates are in J on MEL-LHR via PER ? Assuming QF9 the whole way.
The calculator is doing some very funky things.
It shouldn't change from what it would have been via DXB. Same origin and destination, so the transit point shouldn't affect it.

The calculator is showing me 280/295/310 discount/regular/flexible. Is that not what you expect to see?

It's meant to be the same as MEL-DXB-LHR is now and what SYD-SIN-LHR will be, I believe.

If you choose a domestic flight (i.e. not QF9, not sure why you'd do that though unless flying from somewhere other than MEL) to PER then connect to QF9 then the earn rate for the trip will be a bit different. MEL-PER domestic has different earn to QF9 MEL-PER, I think.

Isn't it that QF9 will earn as MEL-LHR? The stop isn't considered when it's the same flight number.

With a connection, or 24 hour stop in PER, it then becomes MEL-PER & PER-LHR which will be different.

I'd have thought it was the same (280).

I believe this was discussed at the time of launch?

Not sure if this is a reply to my post.

For Flexible economy, earn rates are:
MEL-PER-LHR (connecting QF9) - 140SC / 21700 pt

MEL-PER/PER-LHR (non-QF9 connection or 24h+ stop in PER) - 160SC / 20300 pt.

So more SC and slightly less points.

I haven’t tested for other fare classes but expect it to be similar. Even in the SIN/BKK days of QF1, it was always better (points/SC wise) to connect in Asia rather than travelling on the same flight number.

Check out the story in ausbt.com.au - the rates have changed for Business Saver, apparently. And if history is anything to go by, the calculator will be the last thing updated on the Qantas website - give a month or two....

The calculator has already been updated.

Ok I’m in !!
Trying out QF 9/10 in April.
I have SYD-MEL-LHR and LHR-PER-SYD.
MMB confirms the MEL Flounge for QF 9 Departure.
I suspect it will be a bit of a marathon even in J but wanted to give it a go at least once :)

It's been talked up a lot - it's not that much longer than SYD-DFW (and that route used to be B744).

It's only 375NM further - which is about the same distance as MEL-SYD.

Some people are acting like it's a mission to Mars...

I certainly think it's great to cut out the middle man and go straight from your home country to the destination country. No 3rd country rules to worry about.

In Australia or not, it's still a stop on the way. If one could fly direct non-stop from the East Coast that'd be a lot different to still having to stop on the way. If I'm going to have to stop on the way stopping closer to half way is a lot better.
