QF announce non-stop Perth-London B787 Services

I think we might each buy a ticket to go MEL-PER-LHR when Qantas do a double status credit offer.

Just because we can go to MEL to start a trip and it wont cost much more than going PER-LHR. We will be doing a couple of pay for flights for WP or P1 using double status credits.

'The Australian' on Wednesday 21 June (online) had an article about decreased interest in and bookings to London following numerous UK (largely Islamic) terrorism attacks.

Australian Federation of Travel Agents admitted fewer were booking to the UK.

How long this lasts is anyone's guess, but I was amused to read that QF claimed there had not been a drop, as did Webjet.

Pull the other one, QF and Webjet - although for confirmation we will need to wait a few months.

'The Age' and 'SMH' today had an unrelated article by a former Fairfax journalist who resides in London but says we should now avoid visiting it.

While many QF bookings will be from businessmen and women, it needs some leisure travellers to book, as do all airlines, so this sort of media publicity reminding us of recent negative events is not the sort of coverage an airline marketing a destination (and in QF's case new route) would like.

It's an interesting topic. You accept that attacks will happen rarely but attacks on civilians throughout Europe seem like they're almost a daily occurrence at the moment.
It's all good and well for academics (who've fried their brains on pot in their earlier years) and politicians (with their armed bodyguards) to tell us to carry on as per usual, but I can't but help think that for the first time I'm seriously considering spending more time in my hotel next time I visit London (in late Sept). It's sad, but it's the reality now.
I felt safer visiting Israel/Jordan back in 2014 than I do visiting the UK. :(

We are not going to stop travelling to the UK or the US.
I don't like the gun culture in the US but we are not affected by it where we travel.

The big difference between the US's gun culture (which I also dislike), though, is that civilians aren't being killed in random attacks as regularly as the ISIS-inspired attacks are happening in Europe at the moment. Most shootings in the US are targeted. And that's the scary thing about the UK as there's genuinely nothing you can do to avoid being a target.

But we digress.

I was wondering if we could do a 10 day round trip to London on this service.

You are ignoring casa regulations for etops unless something has changed since you made the same posts about this last year.

Not ignoring CASA certification at all: as stated in my post:

The B777 ETOPS 180 limit at start of service meant that the airframe was approved for GC routes on most QF routes (e.g. the ones where A380 flies, or not, to Europe and Nth America) CASA certification of QF occurring of course

exact wording of my post (new emphasis).

ETOPS 180 capable aircraft from the start regardless of whether or not CASA certified QF

Just returned from London (arrived just after Manchester and was in town when London Bridge occurred). There is definitely more security and new barriers are being installed. It does not feel less safe and certainly no less safe than when I lived through some of the IRA and others' bombings and bomb scares.

I think the risk of being hit by a 'normal' car (i.e. not one driven by a terrorist) is still more likely.

DFAT still give London a green rating (Israel is yellow - red), and Belgium and France are yellow)

Recent experieince is not changing my attitude towards travelling to the UK (i.e. will keep visiting)

Re: Melbourne the latest City to get shafted by Qantas

JT my eldest son did a 5 day London run with a side trip to Portugal.
We don't want to get too run down even if we go in business class.
3 day trips to London are for younger folks than us.

Don't worry, I am only really going for dinner. ;)

Re: Melbourne the latest City to get shafted by Qantas

So dinner at Galvin or Duck and Waffle?
We are going to London for New Years Eve this year instead of Sydney.

Re: Melbourne the latest City to get shafted by Qantas

Can't remember if any discussion has occurred, but has anyone seen J awards for the MEL-PER vv dom segments of QF9/10?
Revenue seats are available...

Had to fly to London for a 4 hour meeting. Spent the entire trip repeating 'I love my job' on loop :)

pauly7 I never ask our staff to do things like that. We try very hard to be reasonable as employers.
London from Perth may be 6 or 8 inches closer based on the earth shrinking so I guess it is getting easier.

Can anyone confirm what the SC earn rates are in J on MEL-LHR via PER ? Assuming QF9 the whole way.
The calculator is doing some very funky things.
