QF and EK re-Signing their deal?

After all, if you're going to play that card, they're not after their own kind. Regardless, I think of DXB and other ports in the area as just as safe as Asian ones.

First sentence: A tad ignorant of history, and the source of a lot of the tension that exists in the Middle East ( it's not just about "the west" or Israel).
Second sentence: Totally agree.

Cheers samh004. In reply:

  1. Personally I do one continental trip, alongside the UK. This time, it's Paris via Eurostar for a few days, but the rest in England. So I don't keep doubling up (good point though).
  2. Fair enough, but I don't think they shoot after looking at the livery. It's an entirely irrational thought, I know. But humans are irrational beings sometimes I guess.
  3. True enough. This is a "force of habit" whinge, on my part.
  4. Again, you are correct. But my point is that previously, I didn't have to chose. I suppose I do now. Boo.

Not to worry. It's decidedly in the category of "First World Problems"

If lounge access is a priority, it might be worth looking at BAEC-you might find you would achieve OWS with them. That offers the ability to earn full SCs on the carriers that do the kangaroo route (as well as QF).
You would also need to fly 4 BA sectors per year and borrow a non-Au address. Would have been more attractive prior to the points devaluation this week (although the reward flight savers that would suit your trips to the continent are unaffected).
For BA base your tickets in SIN. SIN-SYD-(MEL/BNE/ADL/CBR) return is your four BA seqments.

Happy wandering

Re: QF and EK resigning their deal?

When you say the traditional kangaroo route do you mean Singapore Columbo, Dehli, Karachi, Ramardi, Cairo, etc.? Or perhaps the kangaroo route I flew as a child in the 70s via Singapore and Bahrain?

The filters applied when we say tradition are always interesting.

True, but the 'traditional' Kangaroo route I believe the Op was referring to was simply London via Asia Vs London via the Middle East.

I'm ambivalent about the route, but would prefer via SIN or HKG merely because I like to break the journey and there are more interesting short side options in Asia.

I hope the EK deal isn't re-signed as for me, other than being able to explore Dubai once on a stop-over, there hasn't been any material benefits and like I said, I'd prefer an Asian intermediate port.

If anyone has flown BA long haul of late you will know that taking them isn't an option.
Some of the worst service around, by a fair margin.

I've got them again to SIN in a few weeks as there was 0 QF J seats (the new J really is awesome) and not looking forward to it.

You can whinge all you like about DXB as a transit, but it's seamless as a 1 stop to a stack of Europe and the transit in DXB is great, the lounges and its associated services are also great.

I just flew J syd-nrt (qf) nrt-lhr-gla (ba)/ gla-lcy/lhr-hkg (ba) hkg-syd (cx).
BA food was nothing special but everything else perfectly fine (flatbed,IFE,service) on the long-haul legs. Legroom not great on lhr-gla.
Ended up OWS after the one trip. If another EU trip comes up I can aim for OWE using any OW carrier rather than being confined to QF to get meaningful SCs. Useful for me where I don't have 100% control over carrier.
Prior to simpler and fairer I would have been more likely to credit to QFF (and more likely to fly QFd and QFi).

Also having BA coming up soon - first time with them so will see how they do indeed compare!

I for one really hate the flight timings. I like to arrive refreshed at my destination and 5-6 hour sectors before arrival are not conducive to sleep, even in F, and especially with morning arrivals.

Some of the connections extend to 6 hours or more. No thanks.

EK are doing quite nicely out of this arrangement - wooing QF elites with free upgrades, until they realise they could have bought the fare a few hundred cheaper and just flown EK.

I'm waiting for them to get some new metal, be it A380's or 787's or whatever, and open a new route through DXB. Where to? I'm not sure as yet. Plenty of options though.

FRA would still be logical port. Berlin despite being the capital, FRA is the business centre of Germany and is a major hub for Europe.
