I will be flying to Wellington NZ next year. Can anyone tell me what are the J class seat like on the 737-400? Thanks

The normal Qantas 734s have the convertible seating that allows the seats to be switched between business and economy; I don't know if the Jetconnect aeroplanes have something different

Personally, I would not hit for business class on a normal QF 734

I got the tickets by redeeming QFF points. I am confused by the term "convertible seats", are they just economy seats or are they at least the older style J seats?

They are seats which can be adjusted to form 2-2 seating or 3-3 seating depending on whether it is desired to use them for economy or business

Just to say thank you to all who answer my questions. This forum is so helpful and I read it every day to learn something.

I've flown Sydney-Wellington a few times and it has always been on a 734 with the variable seating configeration with the first 5 rows either able to be J or Y seats.

The variable J seats have a few inches more legroom than the standard economy seats and a couple of inches of extra width because the middle armrests are pushed closer together. The seats also have a bit of extra padding, but I don't think it amounts to much.

Hope this helps.

The seats may be not as good as normal J seats, but the AVOD is excellent;)

Yes, if a QF flight and on a 400 you will have the convertible seats. If Jetconnect you should have the millennium.
Interesting to see if all jetconnect fleet gets the millennium seats with the new push to launch cityflyer, or if they bother converting any of the 400 fleet in Oz also.

I wasn't aware that Jetconnect uses the millennium seat on some of their aircraft. If it's available on the Sydney-Wellington route I feel cheated as it has never been available on the flights I've taken. Possibly bad luck on my part.

There are no longer ANY Jetconnect aircraft with variable configuration seating.

The three current 734's they fly are all of 16J/121Y with Millennium seating in J.

Occasionally, a 733 may be substituted; these come in 130Y or 8J/112Y configurations. The 8J... configuration have old-style domestic first/business class seats.

Jetconnect recently announced refurbishment of these aircraft (as well as an additional aircraft):

Re cabin upgrades for JetConnect - 733 and 734's will be receiving new interiors from November through July. New headrests have begun showing up on most aircraft. ZK-JTR and ZK-JTQ will probably be the first to have new curtains as they arrived back with none after service with mainline Qantas.
Indications are that all aircraft will be fitted with Millennium seats up front if they don't already have them.
