I think I may know the answer to this after copious reading here and on FT, but does anyone have comments on the following earning strategy.

I already have enough travel booked to easily requalify WP in the next 6 months (with 6 months left on membership year).

I have never really considered joining AA as I direct all my earn to QF and have just sucked it up if stuck on an AA fare that's O or Q. But I have a couple of these coming up and thinking of whether to direct them to AA.....

SO - I was thinking:

- Direct to QF enough to requalify WP and enjoy the 100% points bonus in doing so;
- Direct all remaining flights to AA;
- Transfer SPG points through to AA;
- Use AA as the better earn/burn redemption for transpac flights in J/F.

Any thoughts/comments??

Obviously QF's redemption rates are not as good, but when combined with WP 100% points bonus, does kind of negate it slightly.....

For a QFF WP it's a bit of a wash with AAdvantage on earn/burn if the majority of your earning flights are over 500 miles. (353 days advance booking against 330 with possible higher award availability against general lower point cost for AA awards and less in "taxes")

What is your LifeTime Gold Status?

Oh god - only about 60% to LTS, so no fallback to LTG unfortunately.

Is there a wonderful AA points earning credit card that could slot into the system that is uncapped and reasonable?
Typically we just burn 50k or 75k points each way on QF points to do the LAX to New York run in comfort but we battle to earn points in America.

theoretically the Diners is the best card to earn AA points-convert to either AA or SPG at 2-1.better to go via SPG so getting 0.625 points per DC point.better if you get an affinity card earning 1.5 points per dollar spend so it is close to an AA mile per $ spend.Proviso-DC are hopeless and their computer system is pathetic.You may not get all your points.
The only other option is Amex but 1000MR points=330 SPG points.
The best of course is to somehow be able to qualify for a US issued card-sadly i do not.
As to burn rates next year we are flying JFK-NRT in F and sets us back 62500 points + $US5 in taxes.

I'll follow this thread closely I think.

In terms of earning AA points flying when flying with QF. What would a 725 miles O fare on QF metal earn for a nothing AA member? I see an O fare is 0.5 earning in AAdvantage, so that would be 362, but does the 500 points minimum kick in?

I'm having the same idea but to direct excess QF flights to AA. I've also just got a MR Amex, again after a break of 6 years.

No minimum earn for non status AAdvantage member so 363 I believe. (182 Qpoints)

Ummm.
Thanks. So 25% qualifying points on O. I didn't look that hard but thought it was 50% same as miles. Will double check.
So many questions but I won't hijack the thread further.

No, by all means hijack away medhead.

AAdvantage is all new to me. So I'm all for learning from the masters here. Besides, I've been looking for something to do with my SPG stash!!

So tested the water and already loving AAdvantage!!

Topped up SPG with another 20,000 points whilst 20% off.
Transferred 40,000 SPG to AA plus the 10k bonus transfer.

Took advantage of the current AA promotion and bought 60,000 miles for $1680 Aud including taxes. Plus another 20,000 bonus miles crediting in 6-8 weeks after the promotion ends.

Gives me 110,000 in my AA account straight off. Signed mum up for an account and she bought 60,000 miles too. I transferred 15k to her straight away to give her 75k straight up.

Thought it timely to take advantage of the A380 F award availability so bought them 2 F tix SYD-LAX for next year. Only 72,500 points each.

Love that you can connect from anywhere in Oz on the same ticket for no extra points.

I'll use QF points to get them J on the way back using the WP request facility if necessary.

All I can say is damn AA!! I'm impressed.
