QF A388's out of action - who is inconvenienced? [Merged Thread]

Often they cannot do it themselves; but you can ask they put a request into "seating". Sometimes that works.

And it may not work at the time of call but I think it must be logged as I have always eventually got everything I have requested.

"Would it be possible to talk to seating please"

Just a quick update guys, surprisingly QF managed to sort the situation out and we are all seated in two sets of three in rows 32 & 33. Funny that! :p

My wife and I are now seated together for the retun to Oz from LAX on Sunday nite, and I'm pretty happy with our seating.
However, I have a query.
On the way over to LAX, my wife was moved from QF to Air NZ via AKL. What happens to her FF points?
Will QF automatically sort out the points and SC's, or will I need to chase them up?
Its 6 days since she flew, and the QF points for ADL-MEL are showing, but not the rest.

I had to chase QF up when it happened to me. They were very helpful and sorted points and SC's out while i was on the phone. :)

I would drop a call into the service centre, if can't be sorted over the they will ask to fax a copy of the BP at worst, but they are generally very responsive here.

Anyone who originally purchased/arranged for exit rows on A380 flights should double check they still have this seat allocated as in some aircrafts there are not as many exit row seats, and also the windows on 747s are no charge because of the door that sticks out.My exit row had been taken away but a little help from the supervisor and everything was fine.
Any other seating concerns try to check in as early as you can, especially at LAX since the check in opens at 2pm for all flights...
When I flew out of LAX a few days ago, chaos seemed to have died down but the staff were clearly exhausted. I overheard them saying they went to work Wednesday and got home Sunday with at most 2 hours sleep per night.
Oh and another reason to check in early, many flights are oversold or only 2 or 3 cabin aircrafts. People checking in next to me were downgraded so I guess the ealier you arrive the more likely you are to avoid this.

Well, I WAS happy with the seats, but maybe I still can be.
Got a phone call 2 hours ago to advise LAX-MEL has now changed to LAX-BNE, then BNE to ADL. I can live with that, but we are now in 34A/B.
Does anyone know what aircraft setup we are on? If its a 2 class (according to the QF website, we are in pretty coughpy seats, but if its any other of the layouts, we are in PE? Can anyone tell me what aircraft QF16 is for nov 14?

I'll look at sorting out missing points when I eventually get home.

I have no insider knowledge but according to EF it's a refurbished 3 class 747 row 34 is Economy, there appear to be better vacant seats than you have. 23 AB in PE is showing as blocked 23/24 E are vacant. Good luck !

In the last week LAX-BNE has mostly been 2 class, last Sunday & Tuesday were 4 class. If it is a 3 class then probably VH-OJI. Probably worth giving them a call if you don't have internet access or can't use the web site to choose seating.

You can search the forum for original routing credit regarding NZ flight. Essentially just email copy of boarding pass and original itinerary to frequent_flyer at qantas dot com and they sort it out or phone if you're you need it done in a rush.

I'll give it a couple of hours and see what I can find with OLCI.
Thanks all

Have tried numerous times to do OLCI and it comes up with an error every time.
Guess we will drop into T4 after lunch and see what we can find for seats. I really don't understand why it is not possible to use the normal web based services once an aircraft/flight substitution has been made.

QF16 for Nov 14 is a 2 class config 744 with Skybeds in rows 23 & 24 being sold as PE.

There is plenty of WHY seating, X1 (award) is showing. I note that 34B is not pre-selected. (34A and 34C are)

Is that a sign that there is some normalcy returning to the pacific routes?

When we came to check in at about 7.40pm, I enquired of the gent behind the counter in T4 at LAX about where we were seated. I was told "ECONOMY - WHY?" I said I was just wondering, and was there any chance of an upgrade to PE, either on the house or using points - was told "NO!"
I then asked if there were any spare exit rows or bulkhead seats, and got told "NO!"
Figured this was a lost cause, so came up to the Admiral Club, and tried schmoozing the Qantas lady who told me that she could arrange exit rows for us at $150 each. I indicated I was not thinking of paying for them, but I would think of using points to upgrade to PE. Was told she can't do that. In fact she pretty much told me everything she couldn't do, as distinct from what she could do.
We are now waitng for a call toet get bulkhead seats, as long as were are prepared to "put up with an infant" (her words) - I've said yes, hoping Mrs Flyboy will get clucky. The good thing is she has to give it back, and can't keep it.
Could make for an interesting flight if its a crying child.

Oh well, if I can risk my life on a rolls royce powered plane, then I can risk a crying baby all the way to Brisbane. Wish us luck:D

It was a total joke!
Got our bulkhead seats and made ourselves comfortable, waiting for "the baby" to arrive.
While we waited I watched the 2 free exit row seats just in front to the right.
Our baby didnt show up, and the exit seats remained empty!

I just do not understand why it is so hard to get a simple answer to a simple question.
Q. Are there any spare exit row seats available on this flight?
A. Certainly sir, we cangive you and your wife a seat each as they are not taken.

All in all, it was a good flight although the IFE on the old 747 was pretty RS. It was in "fallback" mode which meant the movies just kept running, and there was nothing else to look at.

Of course, After a shower in Brissy, I asked if there were any exit row seats on the flight to ADL, and was told there were none available. I'll be watching when we get on the flight to test that reply.
