Was reading AusBT and they have an article on QF losing one of its A380's for up to 6 weeks. It seems it has a stabiliser issue as a result of a maintenance error.
Not good news for the East coast to LAX travelers (including me) who hold an F ticket in the coming weeks. Be interesting to see how QF handle the downgrades.

There was a tiny mention in the business section of The Age last week about the damage...

A mate called up today and the agent tried to downgrade him to J on award ticket but he held firm and was moved to the previous day. I have an LAX-MEL dividend miles award that I'll need to call about.

How are people getting LAX F awards through AA/US? I looked today and for all of Jan, feb and march there isnt a single F seat, and only 1 singke J seat?1

Well that is great - I have paid $40,000 for two round the world tickets and the Rome office claims it is impossible to give me a first class seat even if I am happy to change days. Currently talking to Sydney and they are seeing what they can do. Mr FM has thrown a total wobbly and said we are not to fly Qantas internationally again after our current bookings expire. I have to say I agree with him - final straw for me - Emirates here we come and others. No more of this FF rubbish....

Are you able to re-route via DFW? I don't know if there are many F seats still available on QF8 for your travel dates, but at least it will still be an A380.

The sad thing is, if you accept the downgrade, the scheduled compensation paid by Qantas is pitiful. http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/qf/policies/FareRefundTable.pdf (Of course, you may get additional compensation, but the schedule is bad)

Sorry but I take the blame.have not yet flown the A380 as twice now subbed with a 747 at the last minute.
Booked again in just under 3 weeks and in the bookings get this message
We are not able to compute the available services for this flight

Good thinking :) - Mr FM suggested the same thing - I was so stressed my mind stopped working and no-one at Qantas suggested it. Anyway I phoned Sydney again and now we are flying SFO to DFW and have F seats in the A380. Stress levels almost back to normal. :)

Phew FM, that was close. What a horrible shock.
I know it shouldn't be important, but it is to us - I just felt cheated. We are not super wealthy but it is our thing that we spend our disposable money on and I just don't think Qantas should be able to downgrade you without putting some effort into making the whole thing work. Why should I spend that much money and then be the one talking to a series of uncaring people and have all the stress of sorting it out. Seems to me the problem is all the spare cash was spent on new planes for Jetstar, while Qantas runs on such tight schedules if anything goes wrong the passenger pays for it.

Anyway I better go to sleep - have to get up in 5 hours to make our flight to Istanbul!

Glad it worked out for you! Enjoy QF8. :)

That was already a mistake. Not that Qantas could not have helped you, but no way would I be trusting that particular mob with enabling such a change. No earnest offence intended to any Italians.

So what flight/routing is affected by this equipment change?

Any flight where a Qantas A380 or B744 was scheduled might be affected, either by equipment substititution or cancellation.

I have come across reference to some imminent JNB flights have been canceled likely due to the 744 being retasked to another route.

So what flight/routing is affected by this equipment change?

I believe QF are unlikely to sub a 747 onto the DFW or any DXB/LHR flights - leaving SYD-LAX and MEL-LAX potentially the most affected. And as serfty mentioned, some 747 routes may also be affected as they need to find replacement aircraft from somewhere.

So, we can't rest easy even if told that my flights are not affected, they may become so.
