QF A380 back in service from January 11

I am just ready to take off in a few minutes from LAX to SYD on this plane. The entertainment system is working now but yeah, the seats and even the screens and the whole system and plane inside looks pretty old sadly. Would have preferred to fly back on the Dreamliner but sadly I could not change flights. Ohh and plenty of empty seats.

Such a sad truth really.

I will say though the IFE on UA's 77W's and 787's is pretty full featured imo and works (plus wifi) and the J product (except the older faux polaris on the 787's being phased out) is actually a decent one that compares well with the Qantas J suite imo.

and I think they still have spirits :D

And thats before the price difference!

I think UA has a workable call centre too!

Wow hope this isn't accurate otherwise it could be a major set back for Qantas especially considering its had a refurbed. A similar issue happened a few years ago in Sydney with OQF

There have been some whispers of the aircraft receiving some “minor” damage but if there is major damage they have kept a very tight lid on it

Sounds like there isn't enough qualified people in Sydney to complete the works given something like this has happened before. Should have completed in LAX where they have the facility to do the works

I kinda question this report. Not to mention the website seems a bit dodgy - or at the very least a trumped up personal blog page

but

OQD is NOT the newest QF A380 by a fair margain, the author was on OQB which as we know was not the oldest A380 in the fleet (hello Nancy)

seems like this bloke is going off anecdotal "evidence" and nothing concrete imo

Did a little more digging on this mob. It's a little more legit than a trumped up blog. 4SquareMedia run this and it sends bulk.. I mean very important news emails to Consumer Electronics and IT professionals (apparently). David Richards, who is the CEO and Editor wrote the now missing piece. He did mention he just flew LAX-SYD "On the oldest QF A380" (actually OQB as we all know) and my impression is this was a "news item" based on rumour and this guy's experience more than anything substantial and probably why it was pulled (apart from the errrors). I got the impression reading the actual content it was more of a subjective piece than a proper factual reporting, but that could just be my bias there.

And now I realise I wasted way too much time on this :D

404. What was it about?

B could well be the highest hours of the fleet, as Nancy had a rest for a while.

An anecdotal report that a QF a380 had fallen off its jacks during maintenance causing severe damage, either a write-off or hundreds of millions of dollars to repair (to be paid either by qantas or its insurers).

Here’s the only A380 running VH-OQB

dwarfs the 787

Took QF12 from LAX to Sydney last week. Was the A380 which I much prefer to the 787 as business seats are much longer I feel space wise and you aren't stuck in the 787 coffin. Whereas in business on the A380 you have so much open space!

However there were some obvious "old aircraft" issues. Two seats next to me broke in the fully reclined position and couldn't be fixed. I heard the crew say 3 other business seats had the same issue but were able to be fixed by them. Toilet seats wouldn't stay up. And tray table hinges were very loose so weren't lying flat, but actually inversed.

Would love to see what the refurbished cabin looks like!
