First time poster here, but I figured you knowledgeable people might be able to help me out.

My wife, daughter and I (3 pax) will be travelling between Melbourne and Hong Kong with Qantas at the end of the year, on A330-300 flights, in economy. Given that we will be travelling in a party of 3, it would be ideal for us to sit in one of the rows of 3 seats toward the back of the A330 where the rows are 2-3-2, rather than further forward where the rows are 2-4-2. However, the Qantas online seat allocation system does not allow me to select any of these seats, and a phone call to Qantas booking informed me that these seats are reserved for high-status frequent flyers (I'm only bronze level).

So, my question is: Are there any tricks or methods I could potentially use to get us allocated to one of the blocks of 3 seats? I know it wouldn't be the end of the world if we ended up in a 2-4-2 row, but I'd like to at least try to get what I want...

Thanks!

The QF 333 is pretty much the same across the economy cabin (only the front row being one to avoid due to the closeness of the bulkhead).

For me the main aim is to be away from the toilets at the end of each section - otherwise I wouldn't worry about it too much, sitting your group of 3 across the aisle will likely be the most preferable scenario (ie window/aisle//aisle) vs one block of 3 in the middle, without paying the only way will be to get in quick when online check in opens.

I would try and call QF again, as the last few rows of Economy on the 333 would not be reserved for higher status members.

I'm a bronze flyer with an upcoming A333 flight and can confirm the last few rows are blocked out, from the first 3-in-the-middle row back.

try to split the group in two, instead of three as suggested above, especially if your daughter is little (if she's older she'll probably sneak in a booking away from you anyway ... :) ).

Using "X" as your party and "o" as other seats:
either side of the aisle:
ooX XXoo ooo
or behind/in front of each other:
ooo XXoo ooo
ooo Xooo ooo

Benefit of middle section the person alone only has to get up for one person wanting to get up, not two as you'd have on the window side

Or book both ends and hope nobody seats between you, but in busy period that's probably not going to happen:
ooo XXoX ooo

Of course if you take the night flight then just take a window side for the three of you.

The A330 never has 3 seats adjacent to the window. It is 2-4-2 across the width with 2-3-2 in the last few rows. The window pair and the middle aisle is probably best in the absence of the OP being able to pick the rows near the back.

Being near the back of the aircraft it is possible that these seats are being held for a large group booking.. They tend to be placed down the back i've found.
