Some time back .. someone said that qf would price match, but did not advertise the fact.

So , in Y+ , VA is $2500 Bne > JRO via mel and the ru _roo is $4400 ex siderney.

For that kind of differential one would have to fly VA.. unless the roo's arm can be twisted.

Any comments/ experiences ???

I know during the midst of the GFC that Qantas approached some TA's confidentially with an offer to consider any reasonable price match, though I dare say that offer has since been withdrawn.

Even as a QF SG, unless I was trying to gain or retain status, I'd fly VA over QF Y+, love their product.

But it are other things too like:

the earning of points;
the earning of status credits;
the ability to use first class passenger lounges even though one is no where near first class;

and, for me the clincher:

- the chance to get a ticket in the Qantas International Upgrade Lottery - (I love the thrill of winning this!)

Here's a copy and paste of the Qantas price promise from their website. I wonder if this is what you're thinking of?

Price Promise

Get guaranteed low rates on car hire, transfers, activities and experiences when you book on qantas.com.
If, after you book car hire, transfers, activities or experiences* on qantas.com, on the same day you find a lower publicly available rate on any website with a website address ending in .au or any other website operated in Australia by an Australian company for the same transfer, car hire, activity or experience with the same supplier (including the same Booking Conditions), we will match that rate and Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn 1,000 extra points.^
That's on top of the standard points+ that Qantas Frequent Flyers can earn on transfers, car hire, activities or experiences booked at qantas.com.

They are different routes so i doubt QF would consider it. They would consider the more direct route to be a premium by comparison the the longer ETOPS route VA take, rightly or wrongly.

QF do not price match on flights. Hotels maybe (see the quote posted a couple above).

I know a CL who was unable to get a J seat price match MEL-JFK and wound up on CX via HKG.

Thanks everyone.. looks like it is V or bust
