Was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for travelling in a pair in Y on the 787 - just a short leg JFK-LAX.
I know that people avoid the back row because it is close to the toilets, but for a 5 hour early evening flight I am wondering if that won't be an issue, compared with being crammed in a 3 seater with a stranger. At least the back row is just a pair of seats.....

Anyone have any experience that they can share?

Currently seated in row 41AC - hoping that B will be blocked.....

That's what you get when you squeeze 9 people into a space designed for 8.

Of course J is quite comfortable, it's obvious that Y and Y+ are only there because they don't think they'd get away with J only flights.

There are no good Y seats on a QF787.

There is no quiet mini cabin or seats with the seat in front missing like on the A380.

And they're all hopelessly cramped in terms of width.

I agree with your points but in my opinion the 4/5 rows in front of economy exit row feel like a mini cabin.

Seats are narrow but if you can somehow get a bulkhead/ecit row it would make the experience a little more tolerable.

No necessarily - the leg space at a bulkhead is just too small for me - I cannot stretch fully out while I can in the rows behind.

This is what the first row of Y looks like. If you like having your legs straight then isn't great. I'm 5'10 for the record.

Not as tall as you but would take a bulkhead rather than sit 9+ hours behind a serial recliner in those cramped seats.

I still maintain Qantas has missed the boat here. Their airfares are not cheap so they are selling a premium product and should have gone 8 across regardless of what other carriers have done.
