I don't want to re-ignite the QF unloved 767's debate, just looking for some up to date info.

OK so I am travelling to HNL in November 18th with SWMBO for our 20th Anniversary and I have been searching for opinions re best seats in Y :(. There seems to be some differences in opinion both here and other forums. So I have some questions I would like to ask:

  • I have pre allocated 23 E & D but there are some opinions these have limited leg room due to Bulkhead placement etc., others say they are good. We are both just under 6ft and average builds so is this an issue???
  • What are the opinions for using 96K QFF points to upgrade to J for the SYD-HNL leg?
  • Coming back we can't get row 23, but row 26 A & B are still open. Do they fill 25 A & B? - some say they don't because of the crew rest area @rows 23,24 others say they do - with disasterous reviews?????
  • Both flights indicate that row 25 A & B are occupied, but do they block them and they only allocate row 25 as a last resort?

I am also confused with the pre allocation of exit row seats - As a WP, do I (and my travelling companion) have to pay for exit seats? I have seen a couple of different answers for this as well!

Please excuse my ignorance/confusion, and thanks in advance.

I would not class 25 or 25AB as great seats. Nothing wrong row 23.

Everyone has to pay for international economy exit row seats (except maybe not WP1 and CL)

I realise they are not a great seat but what I was wondering was are they treated a bit like the exit row seats on some of the 747 or say the 1a seat on a Dash8-300 - only filled as a last resort due to the restricted room. If that was the case I was going to gamble grabbing row 26 A & B because the seats infront "may" not be allocated.

Thanks for your opinion on 23. - might still burn some points and look for an upgrade for this night flight anyway. Pity I don't have upgradeable fare for the trip back.

With all the upgrade of cabins talk I wonder how quickly the new interiors are going to come in and will they be for the international variant?

I have same dilemma on QF3/4 next year - decided to spend the $ and guarantee 34A/B.

Booked HNL-SYD and wondering why row 34 is preferred option, any tips for this leg would be appreciated. Also do you think flight in early November will have the iPads?

thanks V

34 is an exit row. To be honest it's the best of a bad bunch. The exits on the ZX's are much better

Upgrade to business on Red e-Deal fare is now available - would you forfeit exit row $ & give up 34 A/B ?

Are you sure? Aren't there still the restrictions on international airfares?

I flew this config last week in 1A. I quite liked 1A although I was only on a SYD-MEL run! To be honest I could cope with it on international too, it's not that bad. And there really isn't anything better on SYD-HNL, Hawaiian is recliner seats too.

Not sure it is worth $11K though...

Agreed, as much as I detest JQ, on the HNL run, given the extremely poor quality of the QF experience, a business seat with JQ is a better deal, especially in a sale.

In reply to my own thread. - row 25 AB are never allocated (The Tech Crew rest bulkhead is against the front of the seat). The only person that could possibly sit there would be someone who had their legs amputated at the hip.

So row 26 AB are good seats because no one reclines in front of you, you can throw your loose stuff (pillows, blankets etc.) onto 25, it's far enough away from the baby bassinet bulkhead and you don't have to pay for them.

Given the choice of exit rows I would opt for row 35 as you can stretch your legs out under the seat in front whereas row 34 you have the bulkhead.

I would rather have a seat in whY on QF3/4 than fly on JQ even in Star Class. The two occasions I have travelled in J on QF4 it was on a JASA for 60K & 72K points respectively.

How is the QF experience so much poorer than JQ or are you purely talking about price?

Price. Paying what QF wants for a coughbox 767 is a big ask IMO. I'd honestly spend that money on the hotel instead.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Fair enough, but obviously people are willing to pay otherwise the price would be reduced or product upgraded a while ago
