QF stopped allowing QF11 LAX-JFK and QF12 JFK-LAX on awards when your previous/next segment is not a QF prime transpacific last year. You will be denied boarding at check in and as part of their daily processes they do audit their passenger lists to weed these out.
The QF booking engine still allows you to do book it interestingly, eg. I've seen LAX QF JFK IB MAD show up recently, but it's unwise to do in case you end up stuck.
