QF have finally updated their lounge access page. Check it out here:
Flying with Us - Qantas Club - Lounge Access

It is so much clearer what you can and cannot do.

Noticed some changes:

1. Biz class passengers can no longer bring in a guest
2. QFF WP can now access the F lounge at any time (now it's official!)
3. OW lounge access is now alot clearer

I'm going to make sure there's always a printout of this page in my cabin bag!

That is an interesting update to the QF site. One item that looks like a change is that an international business class passenger can now only access a domestic lounge when connecting to/from an international flight rather rather than having access to the domestic lounges at any point of an international itinerary

methinks that the text for domestic lounge access for a domestic business class passenger was incorrectly pasted or is a weird rule.

"Business customer can access the lounge on day of departure when connecting to or from a Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number"

This would mean that a domestic business class passenger would have to be taking 2 sectors in order to have lounge access.

The table also shows that a passenger travelling business class on the domestic sector of an international flight would not have access to the business class lounge in the international terminal

For QF Gold, you can bring in 1 guest to domestic QC; guest must be travelling with member - I suppose this means on the same flight? In the past, the guest needs not be travelling.

If you are QF Club member, you can access the domestic QC with 1 guest who needs not be travelling....a subtle but important difference. Therefore, my QF gold card would not allow me to bring in a non travelling guest, but as I'm a QF Club life member, I can bring in a non travelling guest....therefore, my QF Gold card card should really read QF Club Gold member to reflect this; all it has now is just plain QF gold member.

Is this a change as well?

Jetstar StarClass pax access to Qantas Clubs (Within Australia) "No access as StarClass only operates on international flights."

So if I had a Starclass journey BNE-SYD-KIX (or wherever), would I only get lounge access at SYD Intl? Thought I should get it in both BNE and SYD...

And in a similar vein, what happens if someone is catching a Qantas Intl tag flight (ie QF74 SYD-MEL) in Business? I thought they were supposed to get access to the lounge? - Or is it considered International business?

[moot point for me of course, but maybe not for others]

I would have interpreted the table as QC within Australia. Aren't the business class lounges at International airports in Australia are called QC, so therefore the passenger would have access since the QC is within Australia.

I think International Business Lounge refers to all biz lounges overseas and not in Australia.

Any thoughts?

My thought is based on access as listed. If travelling "Domestic Business" it states that there is no access to International Business Lounge and that for access to a business class lounge it states that a Business customer can access the lounge on day of departure when connecting to or from a Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number. No guest access.

If flying SYD-MEL , for example, there is no connection taking place, it is purely origin-destination trip but it states that access is only permitted when connecting to or from a Qantas operated flight , so under the rules as written there would be no acceess

If travelling SYD-MEL-PER, for example, then there would entitlement to access at SYD since there would be a connection to a flight at MEL and there would be entitlement to access at MEL since there will have been a connection from a flight from SYD.

I doubt that this is what they had in mind in preparing the published rules and, to me, shows a disctinct lack in proof reading

Yes agree, I guess its easy for them to look up that your a QP life like me, if your ultra paranoid carry both cards, your QP life and your gold. I usually do, just in a second card wallet with all my hotel membership cards etc.

This is contradictory since QF does state that QF Gold provides complimentary Qantas Club membership ( and even has the Qantas Club logo on the back ) so as a QFF Gold, should be able to make use of the Qantas Club provisions which allows for a non travelling guest

Ah, the anomolies increase

Except if you are flying Jetstar!

Qantas Club members travelling with Jetstar are welcome in any Qantas Club or QantasLink lounge. Simply show your boarding slip and Qantas Club card, or Platinum or Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer card, at the lounge reception. You may also invite one guest who need not be travelling.

That must be an oversight, as I thought that QF gold automatically gets you QC membership. That being the case, whether you are travelling as "gold" or "QC" is up to you as to which "hat" you want to wear ?

While I agree that the tables are useful, though potentailly some terms are confused as others have noted, this opening sentence seems to be very misleading:

"Whether you are travelling in Business or First and/or a Platinum or Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer, including Qantas Club members you will have access to any Qantas lounge."
Perhaps a case of the marketing department trying to make it all friendly and positive but actually winding up misrepresenting the rules?

Hmmm, confusing stuff here.

So QF gold members can no longer take a guest to the QC if that guest is not travelling on the day, but a Qantas club member can.

What abou the people who were Qantas Club members, who made Gold. They still have the remainder of their QC membership on hold until (or if) their gold card expires. Does that mean that achieving Gold status devalues your membership???

Also, in the section of "International Business oneworld customers", it says that "Business customer can access lounge on day of departure of a oneworld flight.# No guest." where #="Must be travelling on a oneworld Airline Members operated and marketed flight"

So this would mean that if you are travelling on any oneworld business class flight, you can acess the Qantas Lounge.

Is the reverse true? i.e. If you are travelling on a QF business flight, can you access any other airlines lounge? I will be flying out of SIN in J this August, and would love to try a non-QC lounge.

for platinum members can we go to the lounge at any time regardless if we are travelling or not?
"Member and 2 guests can access lounge any time. Guests do not need to be travelling."

take me mates friday nite drinkin session!!

I guess what matters is what is printed on the QC lounge dragons' cheat sheet....

I don't think that it says that

It actually states

"Member and 2 guests can access lounge any time. Guests do not need to be travelling"

It only says that the guests do not need to be travelling; it doesn't state that the Platinum member does not need to be travelling. Whether this is yet another poor wording of the site, I am not sure

I read the "can access lounge any time" bit and believe that is the invitation to enter without a flight. I believe it's just poor wording by Qantas...

for gold it states
Member and 1 guest can access lounge on day of departure.+
Guest must be travelling with member.

why say you can get in at any time if it nots true! thats the way i read it!!

i am sure they wll only allow on day of travel but it is misleading to me

It also means, from how I read it, that they can restrict it based on travelling , though not necessarily travelling on Qantas but that the guests need not be travelling

it is not a very well written page imo

Dave

maybe i will call and ask the ruling i am sure you must be travelling.
