We are flying into LAX next week and have complimentary QC passes. As we have a 5 hour wait for our AA flight to San Diego, what Club lounge is available? I thought there were 2 Qantas lounges in LAX but can't seem to find any info other than that the TBIT would only be available to outgoing flyers. Apart from the fact that Qantas arrivals are in another terminal anyway, after we go through customs and immigration we will be out of the Airport. Any suggestions, as it would be more useful to access a Club lounge at this time rather than when we leave a month later?

Thank you for all of your suggestions.

Here is the continuing story.

My husband and I are flying to San Diego with son and daughter in law with QFF flights. We got QC complimentary Invitations when we joined Qantas American Express. As the only flight with QFF to San Diego was a number of hours after we get to LAX we hoped we could use the QC passes while we waited. The problem is that the QC/AC in Terminal 4 is really only for American Airlines members as much as it says on the Qantas site that it is one of their lounges. I think if we were travelling out on a Qantas Flight from Terminal 4 we might be able to use it (still some doubt) but as we are travelling onwards with American Airlines (Eagle) we are not eligible. All very complicated and the first person I spoke to at Qantas knew less about it all than I did. Later I got through to someone who explained it. Our passes are for Qantas operated lounges only. (Which the one in Terminal 4 isn't.) I had already phoned the lounge in Terminal 4 at LAX and the person there told me that they wouldn't accept the passes but we could buy a day pass for $50 per person. It looks like we are going to be hanging around LAX for a few hours as we can't get earlier flights unless we want to use 5000 points each to cancel that leg and purchase earlier flights.

Some QF flights arrive into T4 which is where AA flights depart from. There is an Admirals Club there but I don't believe that QP passes provide access to the AC.

As simongr said, QP passes aren't valid for associated lounges or lounges operated by an airline other than Qantas. Therefore, they're not valid in LA (the same as any lounge in the US, I think).

Actually, the A/C at LAX T4 (and HNL) is a special case at it is jointly operated by AA and Qantas.

IIRC, the passes should be valid. Make sure you get your drink vouchers when entering.

With a 5 hour wait in LAX you could take a bus/rental to San Diego and be there two hours before you plane is due to depart. (unless its a leg you must take to make your itin valid)

I don't think you will be entitled to use the complimentary Qantas Club invitation on that occasion. Check the Terms and Conditions printed on the back of the invitation. The ones I have seen state that you can use it at a Qantas Club when flying with Qantas. Since your onward flight is with AA (or American Eagle) you are not entitled to use the invitation.

You could use it in Australia prior to departing for LAX.

I unsuccessfully tried to use complimentary passes in the Terminal 4 lounge a week ago. Although it is jointly operated lounge (AA/QF), they still wouldn't let me in. I didn't have the energy to argue.

I know this was reported back in August; however I don't think it going to hurt to try anyway.

At the very least, it is now confirmed that the LAX T4 A/C is a QP. :p

Were you trying to use the lounge prior to an AA or QF flight departure? I would expect it should be able to be used prior to a QF departure but not prior to an AA departure.

I don't know the OP's circumstances - but what if the fllight was on a QF code on AA metal? Although I suspect it is irrelevant, instead what is relevant is the opinion of the guardians of the lounge on the particular day.

I wanted to give my brother a pass to use for his return last month from LA and thought I'd call the AC/QC at LA direct to ensure it would be OK - the answer was a flat-out "no". Even though I referred them to the website that stated that it was operated by Qantas and American Airlines, they were emphatic and said that technically, the description was not correct.

I then called the QC service centre here in Oz and spent a lot of time arguing the point and the final response was that they agreed that the website should be changed as it could be misconstrued in this circumstance, but the answer was still "no".

I notice the website still has not been changed...

I am flying on a QF number (AA metal) LAX-JFK in a week's time.... I have a basic QP membership, I assume I would be allowed into the AC/QP in T4, correct?

Further, on a return flight LAX-SYD departing T4, travel in Y, assuming I would be granted access to the newly completed LA QP lounge?

I believe you would be fine Alanslegal.

Refer this part of the QF website (particularly the fine print under "Access to Partner airline lounges)"

Yes, you are entitled to access the T4 Admirals Club both times.

It seems these invitations do not fully reflect QP membership.

A QP member can certainly access A/C's before flying AA.

Note the "Newly Completed" LAX QP in T4 has been open for a couple of years or more.

There is a new oneworld lounge at LAX TBIT which is due to open any day now. This shouldn't be accessible to you on this occasion as Qantas flights from LAX to SYD normally depart from T4.
