I am in the UK and pretty much fly in and out of LHR and Europe where BA very rarely ask for a Guest Pass when I take guests into the Lounges hence I have about 25 surplus ones which are coming up for expiration over the next 26 months.

Is there are market to get rid of these?

There *is* a market on Ebay - but the only people who buy them are those who think it will get them into the lounge on its own (i.e. without a member accompanying them).

I wouldn't bother trying to sell them, I have given some away, but I think their value is close to zero.

I was trying to give some away through this forum, but nobody got back to me. Being Plat with fiancee Gold, neither of us need them...so second chance, does anybody need some - like Michael Blain and Dave, I certainly have no use for them

Why would the guests want to go into such places? The way they swoop on the peanuts might give us some clue to their origin! Throw the passes away and give us important people a break!!

Donjsimons, oh how quickly you change your tune...quoting from the other thread in this area.

Why is it when people get near an aircraft or an airport they suddenly feel SPECIAL? They have just left home where they pay the same for food and rates as everyone else and they have just parked their car in the same size carpark as everyone else, but when they get to the departure lounge they change. Suddenly they stop being normal people and become ego-maniacs, they become offended at the smallest imaginary affront to their nonexistant dignity and expect services they have never paid for.
It is not their seats that need upgrading it is their attitude. If we have bought an economy seat then we should just politely sit in it untill we get off. It is like the people that change from moderate drinkers into bing drinkers from early morning once they are aboard a plane.
Flyers should be warned 'Flying is a psychology hazard'.
I read some of the petty squabble above and hope to hell one of these know-all egotists does not sit next to me next trip.

So you are important but not an egotist?? Give us a break....

I've got to say though, even though the 'dress code' for the QC lounge states 'smart casual' - I've noticed people walking in there in thongs and shorts, etc.

Please, I'm no snob, but I would like to see that if people are going in there, they respect the dress code, because the other day, the BNE QC lounge looked like a heap of backpackers had just walked into it, when a group of 4 really scruffy looking guys came in wearing shorts and thongs. It's meant to be a business lounge, not a pub. There's a bar out in the concourse if you just want to come into the airport and get hammered before a flight.

My whole point is - I wish people would consider other people when you go in there, and at least wear something clean and presentable ; it's just courteous.

Well, pardon me, just because I don't work in an office all day long, I should stay down stairs in the bar.

With over 100 Qantas flights a year I am just as entitled as you are to use the QC. Often I am transferring to a cityflyer service from a regional flight , after a day in the field I try to clean up at the regional airport if time & facilities allow. However this is not always possible and after a full day outside, (which can be hot and less than sparkling clean) I appreciate the use of a QC to freshen up (and sometimes shower if time permits).

I do draw the line at thongs (although judging from what I saw whilst shopping in NY last April thongs are "in" again!), but I do consider shorts totally acceptable, especially in BNE!

Scruffy?

Icemann's got a valid point..... DRESSCODE.

You would get passed the security guys at YOUR local RSL, if you didn't conform to the DRESSCODE! Yet, you MAY be a full Member (returned serviceman etc.) Why would you expect to get into the QC dressed 'outside' the dresscode?

I was in the Gold Cost lounge one time, and a mother was asked (by staff) to take her 3-4 year old outside.... because the child was disturbing the 'ambience' of the Club...... I noticed a lady of 'senior years' had seemed annoyed with the child's occassional laughing loudly and playing!

There are a number of reasons for refusing entry or asking people to leave.

I think it's OK for staff to refuse entry, or ask people not conforming to the DRESSCODE to please leave. Even in Brisbane!

As far as a screaming "argument for post-natal abortion" goes, I agree, it would be affecting the ambience of the lounge - people go there to relax before their flight, having a brat yelling and screming does nothing more than annoy people.

But as far as dress codes go, I think they need to be looked at realistically.

When in Queensland, I often wear shorts and a t-shirt, which strictly speaking is not within the dress code, since they are not "dress shorts".

But you need to look at the climate involved, when I was in Townsville a few months back, the temperature was 33º and humidity was about 60% - anything OTHER than shorts would have been unreasonable (as it was, I was sweating like a pig).

FWIW, I think the "dress code" should be seen as a guideline, with wide discretion allowed to staff. I would not allow football shorts, singlet and thongs into the lounge, for example, but I would certainly allow the shorts I usually wear (down to just above the knee) and a collared shirt, along with shoes and socks, into the lounge.

The thing to remember - and to refer again to the previous post - is that it is pretty hard to block out a screaming brat, it is quite easy to block out someone whos clothes you don't like the look of (and which may be pretty subjective anyway).

I agree - my whole point was not that people go in there in a suit / shirt and tie ; far from it, but I've noticed some people go in there with just 'any old clothes on'. My point (re: Dajop) was not intended to disrespect Dajop or anyone else, but I did notice that the dress code wasn't being enforced that well in some lounges. As Gordon rightly pointed out, you certainly wouldn't get into an RSL with ripped jeans on, let alone footy colours.

If you're coming in to change after a hard day, good on you Dajop. It's when people just rock in, in any old clothes and show a lack of manners that it bothers me, because it just shows a lack of respect for other people. Especially rocking in with a screaming child (after all, in the T & C, it does say that QC members are responsible for the conduct of their guests (and themselves too).

I wouldn't go in there in ripped jeans and footy colours, simply out of respect for the other people. I can understand, and would make an allowance for QLD and other hot places, with respect to shorts, but for instance, I wouldn't wear them in a lounge in the Middle East, and certainly would be mindful of what my partner wore, just not to offend anyone there.

I agree on the other bit as well - which is that screaming and shouting (from anyone) does bother me more than dress, because you can block that out.

'screaming brat!'

Actually, I didn't convey the scene accurately....
The child wasn't 'screaming'.... the kid was simply playing with a ball and laughing and giggling a bit.... It was just that this 'stuck up' type socialite from the Gold Coast objected to children in general being in the Lounge at all!

But, haven't you seen people in the 'cooler' climate areas wearing really inappropriate clothing? The shorts and t-shirt brigade really shouldn't be allowed in.... unless they're heading straight for the showers to change.

I see your point about the 'hotter' climate areas though...

Regards to all....

Or straight to CNS, ASP, BNE.....?

Sounds like a crock of cough to me. If I'm travelling for work in winter, you'll find me resplendid in my Hugo Boss great coat & suit (double breasted of course, I abhorr this button-up-to-the-throat fad), all I'm missing is a top-hat and a cape. I try to get in with my cane concealing a sword, but the security droids froth at the mouth.

On holidays in summer? Cotton shorts and a polo shirt. Maybe even one with slogan like "Gun Control: Using both hands and hitting what you aim at".

Far better to just ask for postcodes at the door, and boot those who don't measure up. :)

Now if only we could get the vote taken back from those who don't own land.....

laughing....

I'm laughing....

Great sense of humor there sir...... I'll just stand by the door, and take your coat. Thank you for allowing me into your club anyway.....

YOURS FAITHFULLY....

Re: 'screaming brat!'

My apologies Gordon. I misunderstood.

I've no problem with kids being in the lounge, that seems fairly harsh that they got booted out because a stuck up socialite complained.

As long as the kids behave themselves, that's o.k. I take my hat off to people who also try and calm their babies down if they're crying, I know it's so difficult for them, and I commend them for showing courtesy to other patrons.

That's what it all boils down to - courtesy. Personally, I can't stand people who think they're the ants pants and are arrogant with it, and unfortunately, some elite flyers believe that the gold / platinum badge gives them the right to be obnoxious. For these people, I would have expected better manners, given their 'apparent social standing'.

And I can talk on that. I came from a working class family and served as a RAAF barman for 4 years and so I've seen a lot of things with respect to manners, and the nicest people to serve and talk to are the ones who don't necessarily believe that they are the most important, just because they're 'air commodore' or 'marshal'. Now, I'm a successful exec. I came from the bottom of the pile and went to the top through hard yards, but I always remember where I came from, so I have a lot of time for 'the little people'.

Have to agree though, I have seen colder climate areas with people wearing inappropriate gear in the lounge.

re: the peanuts of DonJSimons....

That's nothing. Watch the 5-6pm rush in MEL QC lounge and the way that the corporate suits on the MEL-SYD flights swoop on the 'pastizzis' (tiny puff pastry pasties).

FWIW, I actually tried one because I wondered what was in them. I was not impressed and wondered what all the fuss was about, because it was only Feta and spinach.

Give me some MEAT. :)

You should pop into CBR then - they have meatballs, with just the right amount of heat (as in spice) added to make sure that people do not have too many.

I'm perfectly happy to see people in the QC wear t shirts and shorts, or t shirts and jeans, though I do draw the line at lime green caftans. Or anything by Donatella Versace.
