When will Qantas do something about the food in the QC ?

The standard and quantity is getting worse (particularly in SYD).

Those tiny rolls, that soup they never seem to vary, they don't seem to replenish what is on offer ... a few pickles, a bit of ham ...

I know it's not a restaurant, but I mean, why not just go for more and better cheese and crackers and forget attempting anything more substantial - and start the bar service at midday.

Thank god for hot breakfasts in J class (except for the toast, which is always cr*p)

No, but spoke to the Customer service Representative on the 'phone.

Explained that in SYD QC last Saturday afternoon, the old bain marie was looking pretty sorry.

Said he was "sorry to hear that", but it was flat out, because of the delays to aircraft due to smoke in Melbourne.

Why would the catering staff have anything to do with that - or did he mean there were more people in the QC than normal for a Saturday. Didn't seem overly packed to me.

Anyway, had a nice Peking Duck salad and a three glasses of pretty good Semillon in J on the flight home. :D

I guess it must have been earlier in the day that the delayed people had impersonated gannets.

The thing is though that the quality is more the issue than the quantity.

Interesting thought - we alkl rave about the Pier in HKG - but that is an Int'l lounge. It does blow away the SYD Int'l lounges but I guess shouldnt be compared to teh domestc QP...

I know I only have complimentary membership by being Gold but I don't expect too much in the way of catering anyway. A salad, a sandwich, a roll, just something to nibble on.

The alcohol service should start much earlier than 1:00pm. When I am on holidays I love to have a beer early in the morning. In SYD I just go to Bar Roma and have a beer, in other airports I find a bar/cafe that sells alcohol.

Geez JohnK, if I didn't know you better I'd say you were an alcoholic! Many of your posts that I read are always commenting about lack of beer in the mornings! :p

In Australia where you get a meal onboard I agree not much is needed. Different story in NZ where you get very little onboard - 2-3 bites if you are lucky. In NZ there is a need for more food in the lounge. NZ does this very well, QF is okay but could do better.

Sounds like you need to fly out of airports/terminals where it is self serve ;)

Given Qantas' recent enhancements to scheduling of meal times this should be countered by some improvement to both quantity and quality of food on offer in QC.

Of course this will not happen though.

Alcoholic! Far from it. I really don't drink very often unless I am socialising.

Always after a game of golf. Most times before/during a flight, mainly for relaxation as I am claustrophobic, when I am holidaying.

Ah.. take it with a grain of salt my good man - was just a 'playful' comment! I don't mind a drink or two (or three) here and there :)

I know we are all different but I genuinely do not place much importance on being fed in a Qantas club regardless of whether there is a meal service on the flight or not. If I am hungry I can always find a place that sells food.

I really don't expect much from domestic Qantas club lounges so I would not be disappointed as some people. I use it as a place to get away and pass the time before a flight. Anything extra they offer is a bonus.

I did but I thought I would answer anyway.

Perfect way to pad my post count. ;)

Indeed, indeed! From what I can tell, you live in Sydney.. I'm in Syd from 12 Jan -> 21 Jan, fancy catching up for a beer? :)

I am back in Sydney on 11 Jan and out again on 26 Jan.

A beer sounds good. When you know your schedule let me know and we can organise a place to meet.

Count your blessings; as an 12 Year QP member I have seen almost all of it. The food at the moment (and for the past 4 years) is about 80% of what I have experienced at it's best. And about 200% of what it was at its worst.

The "the good old days" finished at the end of 90's. For example, at breakfast time, Generally available in those days were croissants, danish pastries etc..

I have been through an era when the 'food' really was cough. This was for a year or so after Ansett's demise. No Party Pies, No Pastizzi's, No Sandwiches (foccacia or otherwise) & No soup. Maybe some little ball made of sausage mince if you were lucky. Along with this the was a severe deterioration in the quality of available wine.

I am sure there are quite a few other posters on this forum who would remember those era's as well.

I'm coming over for linuxconf, flights are:
Fri 12 Jan 07 10:55 Perth 15:15 Adelaide
Fri 12 Jan 07 16:50 Adelaide 19:15 Sydney
Then.. catching a train, up to the central coast to stay with some friends for the weekend. Back in Sydney on the Sunday, then hovering around the Castle Hill area Mon/Tues to do a bit of business.
Wed - Fri will be Linuxconf @ UNSW.
At this point in time.. planning to spend the last Saturday at the Taronga Zoo (been to Sydney many times, but still haven't been!), and Sunday at this stage has nothing planned!

Flight back out..
Sun 21 Jan 07 19:25 Sydney 22:10 Perth

If I am working at Castle Hill at the time we can catch up on the Monday or Tuesday.

Otherwise the Thursday, Friday or Sunday would be OK. Kensington would be the closest to Uni of NSW.

My husband and I spent and hour or so in the Qantas Club in Sydney yesterday 4/1 and I must say I am very dissappointed in not only the facilities of the Club but also the really awfull food. The bread rolls were all stale, and the selection of food is very limited. I agree that the bar should open at 12 not 1 as they do. I would like to know what the Virgin "lounge" is like and how does it compare with the Qantas Club. The annual fee for the Lounge seems quite a lot less than QC. Any info on this would be good...Thanks Lyn

Um, gross (no offence) but I'm glad I wasn't around in the 'good old days'! Serving that kind of food Qantas (and Ansett) could probably be accused of contributing to the obesity issues we face!

I really love the QF Club breakfast now, juice, variety of bread, spreads, fruit, yoghurt, porridge etc and am glad they have made their menu healthier.

Maybe the change is a sign of the times and people who existed ages ago are the only ones who expect that kind of food now?

The Vlounge in Sydney is quite disappointing... very small and with a limited selection of food. All I've ever seen is soup, bread, and some cold meat. The Vlounge in Melbourne in much bigger but I didn't have time to explore the food options when I was there last.

I would comment on the Vlounge in Perth given that's where I'm from, but there isn't one.
