Qatar Flight Cancelled

Hi Everyone,just a quick question, Qatar have just canceled the daughters flight tonight, was suppose to leave at 11pm, then 2 hr layover in Doha then onto Milan, now they have been put on the 5-40am tomorrow missed there conection, so now they have a 12+hr layover in Doha and a day less now in Milan, what can she do ???Clain on ins or compo with the airline, they won't have access to any lounge as they are flying Y, look forward to your input.

* Can she ask the QR people at PER Airport if they would transfer her to another carrier eg CX, EK?
* See if she can get a copy of their conditions of carriage, customer charter etc & read the fine print to see if the new flight details offered meet the guidelines.
* Ask QR if they will provide a hotel FOC for the long transit & includes meals, transfers etc.

Priority one would be to speak with QR people at the airport (not reservations) about the options.

Secondly can she call the travel insurance company and find out what they will pay out in the event of a delay eg a new ticket on another airline or hotel accommodation in DOH for 12 hours which might make the transit a little more bearable (in case the airline won't). Even if the airline or travel insurance company won't I think it would be money well spent to pay that yourself as I wouldn't want to hang around any airport without lounge access for that length of time.

Once she arrives in Milan I would get her to reconfirm her return flights with QR (or whichever airline she's returning on) as quite often in the case of delays a booking may cancel the onward flights if they 'no-showed' for the original flights. Even though she may have new flights booked in the same pnr, often the original flight segments aren't removed or cancelled from the pnr so the airline system may think they didn't travel.

I believe the OP is talking about PER, which would have very limited OW alternatives.

I am going by the OPs locale, QR do fly to MEL of course so it's all good.

Most insurance companies will cover flight cancellation - pre-paid hotels for example in Milan for the first night (make sure if they have a hotel that the hotel doesn't cancel the remaining days if they turn up late!)

Insurance might also cover the cost of a hotel in DOH (or at least refund the money in MILwhich can be used towards DOH).

Qatar can be difficult when things go wrong (I don't think the ground staff have much authority to do anything outside of the rule book). However, she should be entitled to a free tansit hotel at Doha & will probably have to arrange a Visa at Doha (about $30).

Hi just an update and also to thank you all for the info,Plane was supposed to leave Perth at 4-20 am this morning, finally left at 6-45 am, delayed over 2hrs as a passenger became sick before take off and they (airline ) were asking if any medical people were on board,then they off loaded the sick person and the plane finally left, ALSO Qatar have put the daughter up in a hotel for the day and put them on a midnite flight to Milan( fingers xx_xx_x) thank you all once again ,all the info I recieved from you AFFs was passed on and appreciated, thank you.
