QATAR check-in JFK

Ms prozac flying QR tomorrow JFK-DOH. Has received message saying report to check-in counter 5hrs before scheduled departure. She is grizzling and saying that amount of time is not necessary she'll swan in 3hrs before.
Has anyone experience with QR check-in at JFK and able to pass qualified comment on the check-in time?

Interesting question And I’ll be interested to see recent experiences. I would have thought 5hrs was overkill, but given I allowed 3+hours for a domestic Qantas flight this week, maybe not.
