I am looking at a flight with Qatar Airways Melbourne to Barcelona via Doha.

The outward flights are Business "R" Class and the return are Business "I" Class.

My understanding is the "R" Class fare earn 50% Qantas FF points and the "I" Class earn 75% Qantas FF points.

Does anyone know if what if any Qantas Status points I would earn on these fares?

I usually fly QF and sometimes Emirates, what's peoples experience with Qatar Business Class?

It's worth pointing out that the sub-par earnings don't apply to all routes, although as you've highlighted they do in your case.

The calculator that moa999 linked to (it's probably the best thing QF IT have managed) shows your journey as 10,400 points and 110 Status Credits each way

Best business class I have flown! The dine on demand is awesome. Loved the space on their 777s even in 2-2-2 config it was awesome.

Love QR J. The 777 340 330 and 787 J seats I've had leave QF A380's and 744's for dead (although my preference is the QF 330's) Menus are in general better, but can be inconsistent. Service is different to QF, more 'service, oriented, but I prefer QFs style. Haven't been to DXB lounges or the 380 terminal, but DOH J and F lounges and the terminal are exceptional. If you don't need the status credits, go QR

I've learnt with QR that if you ask them to hold the bread service, they change to a more relaxed service offering. A380 my favourite bar in the sky! A320 from memory to BCN.

Definitely check the QF charts before you book a partner airline. I'm positioning to Perth to fly QR as I could get more sc from there than other ports. ADL should give you the A350 though, I'm on the 777 but hopefully it's just a matter of time before Perth gets the A350. Very much looking forward to them. I did find during booking that there were various options and some didn't earn and some did and you're paying the same price! So definitely check carefully - worth it!
