Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

Got mine overnight, now I need to figure out how I'm going to actually use it this time!
Same. Being only a lowly QF SG it might come in handy for lounge access domestically although we usually only fly in J so get that regardless.
The Qatar lounge passes are probably likewise no use as we would be in J with them anyway.
We are looking at heading to the UK at some point in 2022 so even though QR F gets finished by many it might be a option to use the QCredits for a upgrade on the DOH-LHR leg providing they haven’t retired the A380’s by then. We are also heading to Qatar for the World Cup so perhaps there might be some benefits there?
Regardless it’s much appreciated

I haven't got my email extension yet - has everyone else got their email.

Does anyone else find the Qatar app very flaky

Just logged in on PC and got this popup and definitely says expires 2021 - has other's status updated on app

Me either. I’m sure it’ll arrive, perhaps just a quirk with sending emails in alphabetical order? Or perhaps I’ve been a naughty boy this year and don’t deserve it.

I'm very happy. I've no intention of crediting to QR but could be useful for lounges/baggage. My travels mean requalifying for QR is not worthwhile but nice to have the status while crediting to QF or BA which are easier. VA and SQ are the losers for me in this as I'm less inclined to fly revenue with them
I’m planning on going to Europe next year and was going to fly SQ, but I’ll seriously have to consider QR now (even though they’re more expensive), I want to use those credits to upgrade to J on DOH-BNE.

I've just got an email from QR that my Gold status has been extended to the end of 2022 .....

Email not received as yet. Been trying to check via the app and it keeps returning a 'resources not found' error page :(

I wouldn’t be too bothered if you don’t get a email as all members will get a extension automatically

The status extension should also see Gold/Plats get another round of QCredits (40 or 60) which are valid for 24 months. That opens up even longer journeys for upgrade to Business and even from Economy to First :) Use the Qmiles calculator and toggle the miles switch to QCredits to find out more.

You think we'll get another dose of QCredits?
I wouldn't of thought/guessed that.
As they have separate rules for the status matches like needing less credits for requalification.

We shall see. Would be a good ol' bonus and def see more bookings from us VA refugees.

There is no real way for certain though is there to see if upgrades are available?
QR pricing ex Asia is pretty good so would probably purchase J fares and upgrade to F if possible. Seems less risky than purchasing Y and having to cancel the booking if no J upgrade availability

Yeah I’m being optimistic. I’m hoping the system simply sees another year of Platinum and therefore grants the annual QCredit allowance. It’s possible the “extension” instead of “requalification” is indeed enforced without said benefits though.

Correct, not online. Have fun calling the team in Doha.

Either way, I wouldn’t be booking a non-refundable commercial fare without checking with the Priviliege Club team first that the ticket is eligible and your QCredits can be applied for an upgrade. In fact, I’d book it online while I had them on the phone and get it upgraded at the same time.

I contacted QR earlier this month regarding seat selection and the phone was answered and request actioned in under 15 minutes. My backup was whatsapp but didn't need

Date has been extended on mine to end of next year but no further QCredits unfortunately

Yeah I’m seeing the same. As the system seems to have ticked over WRT to status validity, I think it’s now unlikely we’ll get another round of credits come Jan 1st, but you never know. I’m just grateful for another year of OWE.

So I'm thinking of a going SYD to LAX via DOH, but I'm unsure how to check whether there is any availability to use my 60 Q credits for an upgrade?

If there are award flights availability for that flight you should be able to upgrade.

Ok I'm unsure if I'm doing it right but when I check for a certain date it shows me that it's available to book using Q miles. The total would be 228000 Q MILES + 182.00AUD for one way SYD to LAX via DOH.

Does that mean it would be eligible for the upgrade using credits? Would I have to call up to do it at the time of booking or it can be done online?

You would only have enough credits for one way though

Yup would have to look at a more direct flight home.

I would say no in your case. You need to find award space that doesn’t have the green box which is 2x miles
If you look at my dummy booking above you will see the difference
The top one has availability so can be upgraded, whereas you will notice on the second one it says 2x QMiles and this can not be upgraded.
