QantasLink Airbus A220 Discussion

I must say that I could have been on an A220, MEL-CBR earlier this year, but nothing registered. Just another aircraft with funny seating arrangement, 2-3 I think.

For me, when I do it, it will be a mark off my bucket list, something to try.
If they (Qflink) is still flying the E190 BNE - ADL, I would probably go with that, even tho they are very old now, have done to 2 J and QP lounges at BNE, and prem sec screening, so that part is done.
Cheaper I guess to go MEL - CBR in Y, on the A220 (in my case), then CBR - ADL in an E190.
Wish they would bring the A220 into MEL - ADL several times, just for me to try it.

Still haven’t flown on the QF birds yet but had a couple of flights in Europe on them early last year and they were comfortable enough

I've done all those. Not happy with the E190 so will do BNE-MEL-ADL-SYD rather than BNE-ADL-MEL-SYD. Is Prem screening at BNE back in action?

Another new A220 route.

Sydney to Coffs Harbour starts October 26.

Operates 1 service per day. Timings vary.

The 220 has made a number of appearances between SYD and CFS over the past couple of years but it's good to see it locked in as Classic awards on the Q400 are becoming scarce, especially close in. Classic Plus in Y on the Q400 starts from around 18,600 and goes as high as 25,800, while a Classic in J on the 220 is 19,300. Guess I'll be flying in J a lot more after Oct.

They haven't used the 220 on SYD-CFS before. Just MEL-CFS.

The 717 and 737 has popped up on SYD-CFS over the last few years though.

I am/was aware of the 717 & 737 doing SYD-CFS on occasions and thought I had seen the 220 on a couple of occasions as well; but perhaps my memory is not what it used to be. Either way, I'll be pleased to have the choice of J classic awards and the extra capacity should also help with Y awards.

Last time I did SYD-CFS was a few years ago and it was a DASH8. At least in the A220 I can get my HL in the overhead locker.

Well, the A220 already appears to be having an impact. From late October there are many days with Classic Rewards available (in both Y and J); certainly far more than was showing a couple of weeks ago when almost everything was Classic Plus. Of course the number of points has also increased but at least there is availability (I refuse to pay the CR+ prices and would prefer to drive or even catch the train).

I can’t remember anything remarkable about the A220 on my seat 11C HBA-MEL maiden flight on Monday morning.
Same old 30 inch seat pitch although I did like the air vent.
The charging portals on the seatback seem like a nice touch even though I didn’t use them.
Saw plenty of pax using the mobile phone stand.
For an hour flight it was fine although the seat upholstery seemed a little ‘rough’ to the touch.
I’d had a pretty big weekend so I was zoned out for most of it.
Anything longer than, say, MEL-BNE and I’d definitely have to fork out extra for more legroom as my knees would screaming.

Chose a seat for BNE-MEL in two weeks. Seat 10D. Looks like most of the left side to row 10 is extra legroom and cost $55 extra.

Only good thing about that plane, is if you can snag left hand side, as its only 2 abrest.
Plus, also very good, for av geeks who love window views, ... till QF finds out and then moves people away from these window seats for "qantas may change your selected seats for operational or safety reasons meaning the seat you have chosen or paid for isnt guaranteed...".

OK:
1. seats may be allocated differently to what you have chosen for balance in a lightly loaded plane, but you could move after take-off.
2. in two seat configuration you may be more likely to have a neighbour, but depends.
3. I don't know the A220 but on some planes the overhead lockers are smaller above the two seats. You can always put your HL on the other side! I would welcome any comment on this.
4. On my flight the first few rows on the two row seats at the front are pay only at the moment, even for a WP.

Other than that, not very common for a status PAX to be moved around in the whY cabin on domestic flights. Although, the funny thing. My last flight I was moved across the aisle on an E190. The config started jumping around back and forth a couple of days out.

But great if travelling with one other!

That’s the good thing. Proper OHL space. The E190 have small lockers and I saw peeps with bags that I’d think twice about taking on a 737. No idea why they weren’t gate checked before boarding…🤷‍♂️

I believe the first three rows are “Extra legroom”. The first row will be blocked unless CL/P1.

I sometimes get moved to a neighbour free seat.

The E190 is my comparator. Thanks

Thanks for the heads-up. Yes, stated as "Extra leg Room"

It's the first 6 rows on my flight blocked out as "extra leg room" and wanting $55. Some have ponied up.
