Wonder if this means QF will send more 737’s back east too…?

Most likely FIFO with some Intra-state turns (plus probably ADL or DRW), similar to VARA.

They were indeed being scheduled on the 2nd daily DRW-PER flights while that lasted....

Im sure they will try and pinch more FIFO work off VARA. I cant see any other RPT intrastate routes. (Maybe taking on VA at KNX but its a long shot)

If only they increased the seat pitch on these like VARA did. Its a JQ aircraft in QLink livery with QF pricing. QF has always been very guarded on intra state WA, must be making a killing.

PER-BME is often >$500 one way in the dry. JQ isnt allowed near.

I was thinking this would allow them to send the remaining (?) 737’s back east to flood the eastern seaboard with flights. All the 717’s got moved over already right?

Correct, no 717s left. It will probably allow the A320s to replace some of the 737 flying, particularly where they are still used on FIFO routes (if thats the plan?).

It may also allow for a couple of the older F100s to be retired.

Perhaps they want all the FIFO money.
VARA still have decent contracts with Rio Tinto and BHP aswell as a few others.

Could quite possibly have won some more accounts that aren’t public knowledge yet, yes that is a possibility, given VA2 is moving away from business and corporate flying you may be on the money….

Adding 6 new aircraft to 11 existing A320’s under QFLink colours (Network) is a huge expansion though…. Will be interesting to see what happens…
 
2nd hand Aircraft actually. Most likely transferred from JQ as some from Jetstar Japan and 3K (Jetstar Asia) gets transferred to JQ.

I believe some were coming from 3K, office chatter about 2 months ago was that 4 were coming from Vietnam but at the time no one really knew which department they were being acquisitionEd for.

Lets not forget that VARA will be acquiring the 2x extra (2nd hand) A320s (taking the VARA A320 fleet to 7) for WA ops so they'll be finding their own niche in the WA/FIFO market.

It will indeed! The other issue for a growing fleet is the lack of slots in the early morning which is the preferred departure time for FIFO.

Yes they do some flying for them though it’s far from a whole of business FIFO contract for both of them and QF also picks up both their non FIFO work no doubt due to the fountains of gold in the CL network ;)

BHP and Rio will continue to share their bounty of money for flying. There are plenty of other companies too. But the big two/three have no desire to see VARA disappear. Even if it costs them a little discount on an all-in QF contract in the short run they know how that ends up in the long run.
 
Alliance and Cobham also seem to be doing really well with the FIFO market.
 
Are they the four aircraft that sat in HKG forever while the JQ HKG project staggered along to nothing?
 
Nathan Miller has been snared by VARA to be their new EGM. He is a very good operator and I think it’s a sign that Bain are interested in growing VARA further. There should be more than enough work to keep all the operators happy
