What the Australian article doesn’t mention is QF was top of “Major” airlines but only 23rd within ALL airlines. The Australian Aviation article posted up thread correctly differentiated the categories from the source.

A couple of curious observations in the sample size eg Garuda at #1 but only ~6k flights.

Also, the LCCs who’s key metric is on time departure are languishing at the bottom of the tables.

What data is the external party examining g?

It's measuring what time a p[lane lands at an airport, and falsely trying to compare this against the timetable that specifies an arrival time at a gate of an airport.

So the data and media release generated is misleading, since you or I cannot alight on a runway.

This is not true for Sydney. The NSW Audit Office includes cancelled services (and those that skip a scheduled stop) in the punctuality metric. Any service that fails to arrive within 5 minutes of its scheduled time is reported as non-punctual.

Including delays and cancellations into the OTP calculation would put QF OTP to be 87.16-1.59 = 85.57% Putting it in 3rd place (assuming the rest of the data is correct)

I think people malign the airline for other (often justifiable) reasons, not just OTP.
