Qantas Wine latest offering

Always AusPost for me in SYD, but post Covid they’ve gone down hill a lot….often will leave a box outside in the sun when no one’s home…😔
I agree the placement of certain items in the sun is a poor choice, another case of common sense being phased out.

I put that down more to the individual than company. Then again training can help.

Pretty sure the AusPost delivery guys are contractors 🤫

Aramex are atrocious. Absolutely useless in metro Sydney.
I've always had a good run with Aramex in Canberra. I get deliveries from a few different wineries other than Qantas Wines. I select the 'Leave by Front Door' option, which is tucked away from sight and the sun. To be honest, I've had middling to terrible service from Auspost, so swapping to Aramex is a good thing for me.

Yes, it must have been a recent change of contract- my last three orders also suddenly came with Aramex (I order wine from Qantas WAY too often).

I was very disheartened by this sudden change initially but those three deliveries have been surprisingly fine. The guy always calls my phone if I’m not hearing the bell or happen to be down at the pool which is something AusPost have never done. Definitely better than just dumping the wine box in the pretty accessible building lobby right on Bourke Street in Sydney which has been one of Australia Post’s specialty recently!

I’ve noticed in recent times that Qantas wine doesn’t provide the value it used to. Some wines are priced higher than market and their sales are not as good as they used to be. In particular the phone wine adviser doesn’t seem to really have any great deals any more.

EVERYTHING that Qantas does is about increasing profits above all else.

I'd assume someone in management decided profit margins weren't high enough with the point bonus offers in the past.

Just the same as they decided consistently releasing actual classic reward seats isn't the best way to make them the most money....

I think 99% of the time they're priced higher but that's just the way they profit.

Like many I'm in it for the points but still drink the wine so in my head I like to give the bottles a $10 per bottle value (regardless of the actual bottle) then subtract that from the price and work out a value. My last order was 6 bottles of Nautilus Pinot for $237, subtracting $60 works out at $177 for 10761 points (1.64c per point). Anything under 2c per point I'll be considering it.

I keep a close eye on Simon's website (and yes plenty of other trackers out there).

I guess my philosophy is that I am looking at whether the prices for what I want to buy are competitive and the points are a bonus rather than “buying” points. The PC+ discount helps a lot but on this approach there is much less value there today than there was even a few months ago.

Yeah I’m much the same now. It’s a way to buy points that comes with free wine attached. My last purchase was about $3k worth of wine that covered the points needed for the return leg of a SYD-LHR trip in J.
It would good if the wine/points tools (e.g. flightseats.io) let you setup alerts for the rare occasion you can buy <2c points.
