It's getting close - but I don't believe the full rollout is complete yet.

They were up to 85% of the fleet six months ago and since then, humps have appeared on..

VXB: VH-VXB Qantas Boeing 737-838(WL)
VXD: VH-VXD Qantas Boeing 737-838(WL)
VYK: VH-VYK Qantas Boeing 737-838(WL)

So at least 89% now - possibly higher if others have been fitted since their last entry on planespotting..

My tracking had it down to possibly 3 without - VYD, VYH and XZB (trial aircraft that had it removed) but possibly a couple more may have had maintenance without it being installed.

Suspect completion has been delayed because of the pickle fork issues which grounded three aircraft for an extended period.

There appears to be a recent December update to this page - 96% of 737s and 80% of A330s are done. So we must be getting close ...

96% is 72 of 75 737s - so 3 left - likely VYD, VYH and XZB
And 8 of 10 domestic 332s - EBA, EBK left

Hi All,

It's been about 6 weeks since I last flew QF Domestic. Currently posting this from QF604 and noticed a change for the good - no longer need to enter Name and Seat Number in order to access the wifi ... log-on experience now is pretty much same as logging-in in the Lounge (except have to tick box to accept T&Cs)

When did this change?

I first noticed this around a month ago, not sure exactly when it changed.

I always figured they wanted to capture the name and seat number as a way to audit who was using the facility, more big data.

Some airlines use this in order to give free or discounted access to premium classes or frequent flyers, while charging more to the plebes. Is it possible that QF was considering this but has now decided to permanently* offer it for free?

* to the extent that anything involving airlines is "Permanent"

At the risk of "giving them ideas" my fear is that QF are preparing to go down the alternative ... "in line with standard airline practice ...."

I've long held the idea this is the end-game once the domestic fleet was 100% enabled.

Yep i assumed the data of knowing who uses it would eventually be used to work ourt who they should be charging.

Hey all enjoying the Qantas inflight Wi-Fi on my phone but no joy on an old iPad. Connects to Wi-Fi ok and chrome or safari redirect to wifi.qantas.com, then it gets stuck on the ad. First frame only shown and it doesn’t play. Qantas free Wi-Fi is only available after watching it!
IPad 2 running iOS 9.3.5, still great for watching movies on Plex/Netflix!

Would have anything to do with their lawyers (or government) requiring them to ensure users accepted the T&Cs.

i.e. no liability/compensation for it not working, no exposure to the company if it was used for illegal purposes, trace-ability if investigation required by them or authorities.

Almost all companies do not provide unfettered access to their networks for the same reason.

Anytime, I'm at 30,000 feet and someone lets me browse the web for free .... I'm saying thank you
- even if they link my page visits to my FF number or see if I surf competitor offers

Fun fact, you can access wifi on QF by going to wifi.aa.com and on AA by going to wifi.qantas.com.

I worked this out in a recent trip with Qantas and I couldn’t remember the address but I still had the AA address saved.

And before anyone asks, no, wifi.qantas.com on AA brings up the regular AA site and requires payment. That would have been a good hack though.

You can go to whatever website you want. The captive portal will redirect you to the require sign-on page.

When they made that change they added in the ability to show an ad just prior as well. Doesn't happen every time, but on my last two flights I got a QBR ad. No doubt they will sell that space soon enough.
I don't have any issue with a 15-30 second add for free wifi.

Yeah I don't mind watching the ad either, except that it's not playing on the older iPad so I'm stuck without web access. Must be a flash version or something.
