Wow using Qantas vouchers is the most painful experience I have every experienced online.

I have a $250 and a $2000 voucher

Things you should know

  • You can't combine vouchers
  • Voucher ID becomes your flight booking reference
  • If you add two names to the voucher, they get 50% of voucher value
  • When you use a voucher with two names, it auto books 2 seats, no visible way to change to one
  • You can enter a voucher number of somebody else and see what flights they have booked

So as it stands for trip I had to
  • Book 1 ticket one way to Broome with the $250 voucher and pay the balance of the fare, not happy
  • Book 2 tickets one way from Broome with the $2K voucher
  • Wait for new voucher to be issued

A few questions,

How do I book one way to Broome for 1 person only, using a voucher with 2 names on it?

How do I link the 3 booking references together?

Note for QF it is to hard, you should be able to redeem the vouchers (plural) at the pay now screen.

Simple answer, you can't. The flight booking must be for the same number of people as the voucher was purchased for.

Call Qantas and they should be able to do this for you so you can check everyone in together.

I know hindsight is fantastic but it would have been much easier to purchase 2 x $1,000 vouchers for 2 people and then link the bookings together.

Not happy had to contribute cash to two bookings when I had a perfectly good voucher

Still no voucher for residual balance of the voucher 90 minutes after the fact

It takes time, but most of what you have said has always been the case.

What I don't get is your last point about being able to see someone else's flights by entering their voucher number? You would still need a last name to match, and this is then true for anyone using Amadeus...

Sorry I put in a voucher ID by mistake of one that i had purchased for someone else and entered my surname and it showed me their booked flight and relevant contact details. Know that you mention Amedeus, the penny has dropped how gift vouchers work and how i could see the other persons bookings. Thx

Spoke to QF last night and was told residual voucher would be issued with in 30 minutes of the booking.

Rang this morning after not receiving the new voucher and was told it takes at least 24 hours to be reissued :-)

I found using vouchers through the call centre (platinum desk) to be pretty easy. It took a little longer but 10pts/$ made it worth it.

Basically 36 hours after the fact and still no reissue of voucher :-) ... not in any rush
