I was awarded an upgrade, and then cancelled it over 48 hours before flight. I accepted when the consultant said that I would lose the points as I was just trying to get all the new arrangements organised at the time.

After I finished putting everything in place, I went into my frequent flyer account to request an upgrade for the new flight. Of course, I had to tick the terms and conditions. I took a screen copy because it says that Classic Upgrade Reward requests confirmed within 24 hours of departure are non-refundable.

I am a little confused. I have never cancelled an upgrade request before so it has never been an issue. If I read this correctly, does it mean outside of 24 hours I should get a refund of my points for a Classic Upgrade Reward? Thank you.

Should be refundable before the 24 hour mark, I would call to query.

There is a points penalty if you cancel a confirmed upgrade outside of the 24 hours, but yes you do receive the rest back (is it 5k from memory).
