Qantas unveils the biggest changes to status in program history

Status runs on DSC try to aim for 3 to 5 $ per SC. That gives you an idea on what people typically spend. Your run will bring you at least 85 S:. How far are you from your status target? Do you need those 85 to achieve your goal? Are you chasing lifetime target too...

For me it is a combination of
1. What a current return flight would cost me.
2. The time lost doing the flights
3. Will the extra SC (85 in this case) help in the future or would the dollar spend be more beneficial at the start of my next membership year - the new roll over changes this calculation
4. How close am I to a LT level
5. What do you believe QF will do in terms of the 8th Dec date. A hard rule from the 8th its gone completely, any flights booked prior but schedueld after still eligible or it is still in play until the end of your membership year
5. Ultimately is it a rational decision
Thank you to both of you for your advice.

I should be able to reach my status target this anniversary without this (I'll still need some extra flights on top of what I've already booked but those will be more purposeful though).

I will do the sums and work out how much it'll cost me.

With regards to lifetime status: I'm a few years off my goal.

On the 8th is when the on-the-ground SCs commence. This will replace the loyalty bonuses (50 SCs for every 500). However, I'm unsure as to the exact date that the loyalty bonus will end. They may be a few weeks of overlap (8th-31st).

Is there still a way to delay the loyalty bonus SC posting or is it automatic / instant now?

You used to be able to manually press when you wanted it, so you could hold it until your next membership year if it was close.

You can still decide when to click and accept the sc. Green tier, and even loyalty bonus. I would take a screen shot though, just in case the option diseapear before the advertised 90 days.

Truer words were never spoken.
No one is sure how these enhancements are going to play out.
Which makes it all the more fun in trying which way it will go, for what its worth my guess is the loyalty bonus will be valid for your current membership year, similiar to the retain levels

The Qantas website tells me that I need xx_ SC's to retain Platinum by 31 Aug 2027 (based on achieving 1200 SC’s). When they change this to 1400 on 8 Dec 2026, won't they be in breach of Australian consumer law, as they have already told me it will be 1200?

If so, perhaps there'll be such a backlash as to warrant another class action.

What moron in Qantas dreamt up this nonsense?

Qantas again contradict themselves it seems. Good luck . Looking forward to this thread.

So what's the point of 8 Dec?
The system changes over,.
So anyone whose membership year ended before 8 December 2026 will need the old retain number of SCs to retain their status for the next membership year. Anyone whose membership year ends after 8 December 2026 will need the new attain/retain number of SCs.
A whole lot of other things change on 8 December. I know the changeover as a whole is messy and complex but I think this aspect is fairly straightforward.

No contradiction. The change to targets will occur sometime in 2027, and are not likely to impact members in their respective membership years imo.

I’m with those who agree the target won’t change in your membership year. But:
- I’ve no doubt (without reading them, which I’m not about to do) the Ts & Cs state they can change things anytime they want
- Who remembers the tag line about points never expire? When did they change that, during COVID when we couldn’t travel to keep points active? Not everyone had a credit card or knew about the Wellness app to get around that little chestnut

I looked it up and I’m way off… points expiry came in in 2001 it seems. Whoops 🥵

So what's the point of 8 Dec?
It's the first tranche of changea. The end of points club and green tier. The beginning of status on the ground.

While we don't have a date for when the renewal SC amounts change, I would expect the transition to work something like points club. You'll keep the renewal amount up to your next anniversary.
