Qantas unveils the biggest changes to status in program history

Perhaps Qantas Pay
That might be too easy - unless there was some requirement to transfer $150k to be eligible…

I really hope they don't just tie it behind one CC or like a Titanium card situation.
This is what I thought first up when I saw the commentary about tying it to some, but not all CCs...

They're facing a massive drop-off in CC usage, so this is one way to slow the bleed.
Surely it's the revenue stream from banks they'd be wanting to protect though, although I guess the internal customer / own brand card is a customer too

They could have just reduced the threshold to counter the new operating environment, however they’ve done the sums and figured this is more financially lucrative.
Internal sums? Surely this will be blamed on sorry credited to "customer feedback" that the old systems were too complex, etc...

Very annoying and a bit surprising that Qantas has told the media about this credit card change, but provided so little detail months ahead of the official announcement. Why cause so much unnecessary angst?
So that a certain other web site that's nothing more than a corporate shill can write about 78 articles for Qantas about this in the lead-up to the change actually being implemented.

As a self-funded retiree who needs to travel overseas regularly for family reunion (as well as some good old fashioned tourism), QANTAS have continually made changes to freeze me out as a customer. After Covid I went back to them briefly because of their brief via Darwin routing to LHR (and DSC offer). Back then all airlines were charging through the roof, so BTDYK.

But since then CRs have become a real lottery with their unpredictable release, prices have remained higher than other options, and with status changes, points earning changes, lounge passes that can't be used, it has all just led to the inevitable decision to forget about QF status.

I'm still confused about the phasing out of Points Club.

My membership year goes until the end of September.

If I qualify for Points Club before October this year, I'll keep it until the end of September 2027, right?

But if I can manage to qualify in the first few months of my new membership year, starting October 2026, I'll keep Points Club until end of September 2028 ?

I don't think that is clear yet... my membership year is 31/8/26 and I've just requalified for PC+ which now shows an end date of 31/8/27. I am not sure what happens from 1/9/26 for me in terms of qualifying again.

For you, yes if you requalify, you will get until September 2027, but whether you can qualify again, I am not sure if that has been advised yet.

That's been my strategy in the past, to qualify every second year, eg unlock it at the start of a new membership year to get it for the remainder of that year plus the next year, then let it lapse in the second year and then qualify again at the start of year 3.

However if I don't get in this year (even though I'm almost at the end of my current year), it might be too late to get in next year if they shut off new qualifications.
