Is it just me, or is the latest Qantas competition using #QantasLuxury not going exactly to plan?

While it's just the outpourings of bored office workers, I have to say I have enjoyed it! Helped pass a few minutes while waiting for my lunch.
 
Even the Qantas PR department now appears to have acknowledged on Twitter that it was a bad idea....
 
"The prize is one pair of Qantas First Class pyjamas and one First Class amenity kit. "

I can see why people might not take it serious.

Is it just me, or is the latest Qantas competition using #QantasLuxury not going exactly to plan?
It's the focus of a lot of (perhaps former) passengers' anger.

Some of the responses - 86 yo grandmother sleeping in an airport for three nights, and a future dad stranded in LHR and unable to return to 8mo pregnant wife in Aus - are heart wrenching

Within minutes the #QantasLuxury was filled with customers who had their own views on the airline which has been suffering from a disastrous PR profile following its grounding of the fleet at the beginning of the month.
At the time of posting, dozens of new tweets are appearign every second.
They include
Getting from A to B without the plane being grounded or an engine catching fire
#QantasLuxury is a complimentary cheap hotel room because your cynical airway left you stranded in Adelaide, of all places. Adelaide.
#QantasLuxury is a massive executive bonus while your workers starve and your former customers choke
My idea for #QantasLuxury is not having cabin crew lie to my face about my electronic devices and their safety on a plane.
Couriers to make sure my staff around the world get their lockout notices any hour of the day or night #qantasluxury
More than 3mins notice that the whole service has been grounded #QantasLuxury
A ‘Full service’ airline that gives apples or cookies for flights between 11am and 3pm #NoLunchForYou
A plane that doesnt have an exploding engine! #QantasLuxury
My #QantasLuxury experience would be no matter what time or duration of the flight a proper meal is served a cookie is not a meal its a joke
Flights that leave on schedule because Management doesn’t arbitrarily shut down the airline #QantasLuxury
Planes that arrive intact and on time because they’re staffed and maintained by properly paid, Australia-based personnel.
#qantasluxury having a skybed so “superior in its class” you have to be under 5 foot to be able to use it with your legs straight.
#QantasLuxury? 1. Plane takes off/arrives on time; 2. Baggage delivered promptly. This used to be called #QantasService
#qantasluxury – is not being told you can apply for refund online & finding out they only refund via a phone # that no one answers for 4hrs​

Checking in online the day before and having something other than a middle seat in row 29 available. #qantasluxury

ummm not inclined to actually go searching for either of these, but from experience re entering competitions
there is a mighty big chance these may just be b/s. There is rarely the rquirement for the 'truth' t be used
in answers......

Not only that many promoters big or small do not take kindly to 'whinge' entries.

Unlike Facebook, mostly, the entrants don't hide behind a hashtag/username :)

haters are gonna hate. maybe fairfax should spend more time covering real news.

Yes and no, there will always be haters \ trolls on social media, the trick is not to give them an open invite. It's the open invite to the haters to hate which is being reported.
 
I love a social media dumpster fire as much as the next guy, but this one is fairly ho-hum AFAIC.

I don't see what all the fuss is about.

I think QF could have put anything up there and people would have slammed it. Frankly I think Corrine Grant is pumping her own ego with cheap shots to make herself look smarter than she is. Throughout all of the disruption she has only attacked QF and never commented on the strikes the unions disrupted her with.

I agree - nothing to see here move along - except that it made it into the ABC news tonight...
 
I think this will be enough of a debacle already to make next years 'how not to do it' case studies. Having read the feed, it strikes me as a lot more people laughing at @QantasMedia than haters. Not good PR when the punters are laughing at your management.

And its spreading at the rate of a Japanese tsunami. The youtube video is out already!:D
