Have you had one of these before? How do they work? I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to twitter:)

Pretty good summary:

1.Get yourself a twitter account.
https://mobile.twitter.com/
2.Follow @qantasairways
3.Watch for the tweet tomorrow morning from @qantasairways regarding registration for the MEL Tweet and Greet.
4.Be one of the first (??) 50 people to register on the link ( I don't know how many places are available)
5. Wait for the email or DM from Qantas if you are a winner

What were the details again - 8:30 - 2 in Brisbane. Anything else?

What is Tweet & Greet?

It's an event organised by QF where the registration link is on Twitter. Free of charge and usually sells out within minutes.
The first event was an A380 tour in SYD and the second a meal at Spice Temple in Crown.
QF actively encourage tweets and Facebook posts on the day.

What is Tweet & Greet?

It's an opportunity to meet Qantas staff at an event hosted by Qantas. In the past there has been lunches in Sydney and Melbourne. I think there was also a tour of an A380. I think this would be the third tweet and greet. It is advertised via twitter.

Ahh damn, that would have been great! Should have jumped on it yesterday.

Thanks for the replies.

Entered at 1201 and missed out! :(

You must have been a bit more outside than that, as I think there were a couple who registered more than two minutes out and still got in.

That said, I registered within the first sixty seconds, which was how fast the registrations filled up the first time I got into one of these TweetUp events.

Got my invite this afternoon and looking forward to this one; home town, so no need to position for this one.

What's the rough frequency of these events/invites guys?

I don't think there's really an established "frequency". They happen more or less randomly - looks like at least once a year - and are announced on Twitter fairly close to the registration. In this case, the event was announced within 24 hours of when you had to register. Admittedly, the various travel websites which I 'subscribe' to got me onto the knowledge of this event more than Twitter did (luckily in time :)), since I'm not a warrior on Twitter these days.

As can be seen, the number of places in each event is strictly limited and registrations tend to fill up within about a minute or two. Naturally, I was "camping" on my Twitter account waiting for the announcement / registration link to appear before jumping on it and filling it out quickly. Of course, it's only at this time you actually find out the location and timing of the event, so you do have to make a decision quickly before registering equally rapidly if you don't want to miss out.
