Qantas Tweet and Greet 21 June

I don't think there's really an established "frequency". They happen more or less randomly - looks like at least once a year - and are announced on Twitter fairly close to the registration. In this case, the event was announced within 24 hours of when you had to register. Admittedly, the various travel websites which I 'subscribe' to got me onto the knowledge of this event more than Twitter did (luckily in time :)), since I'm not a warrior on Twitter these days.

As can be seen, the number of places in each event is strictly limited and registrations tend to fill up within about a minute or two. Naturally, I was "camping" on my Twitter account waiting for the announcement / registration link to appear before jumping on it and filling it out quickly. Of course, it's only at this time you actually find out the location and timing of the event, so you do have to make a decision quickly before registering equally rapidly if you don't want to miss out.

Thanks Anat01 - nice work - appreciate the detailed reply

I wonder if there will be an Auckland event??

I would love to see events in SIN, HKG or AKL as "close" international ports, but I suspect we would be holding our breath for a long time waiting for these.

After all NZ is largely a Jetstar and Emirates destination rather than QF these days.

The odd thing would be is if the TweetUp was held in an international port, would one jump to get to it?

It'd take sheer determination to do so, especially if notice was only (like in this case) about a week out. At least domestic repositioning is a cinch.

Don't suppose if people realise they cannot make it, they would reoffer the spots? I'd love to attend - I am starting my PPLs soon and would love to see behind the scenes!

They probably have a backup list, I know of one cancellation in the last 5 minutes I am sad to say.

Something came up? Sorry to hear...

All good, I was hoping it would be suitable to bring Markis10jr along, reading the details I suspect not. I have also received news this morning that I need to be in Sydney permanently the following Monday, which might take a bit of organisation.

Does one need to be a twit to attend?
(I deleted my account some time ago, and someone has taken over my handle, lol)

It is nice that they are having a function on the weekend for once... Some people in this country have jobs (apparently) :p

Purely hypothetical since it would be all gone by now. But you only needed twitter to get the registration link. Anyone with the link could register. So no you don't need to be a twit.

I don't tweet, apparently it gives you "chirpies" which is a canaryial disease, and it's untweetable !!!!

And it's already full! Tried to get my dad in, as a former pilot back in the day he would have loved it.

That will teach me for working and not sitting on twitter all day... :)

Damn, hopefully you can get onto the next one.

God forbid you were doing any actual work :p

A spot has become available due to a late cancellation.

As an AFF advocate, I have already reached out privately to the couple of members who mentioned on this thread that they entered and missed out - however to no avail.

So I leave the floor open to you - first member to send me a private message with a name, number, email address and/or Frequent Flyer number by midday today (Sydney time) will be successful. :)

Where: Brisbane
When: Saturday 21 June 2014 (tomorrow)
Time: 8.30am-2pm
NB/ flights not included

Red Roo - Thanks for the offer to AFF.

Unfortunately I am speaking at function tonight in MEL which won't finish until after the last flight. Booking QF600 in the morning wouldn't get me to BNE until 08:15, which may be cutting it a bit fine (especially as I notice today's QF600 was ~10 minutes late).

Perhaps next time.

That was an excellent day. Amazing the complexity of the QCatering facility. Hangar 3 was also very cool.
