Qantas Travel Pass?

Why on earth would one be able to make a booking with a TP (which is a form of payment) and then expect to cancel it and get a refund to another form of payment(ie CC)? That makes no sense to me. Of course I understand the intent but in the context of what the product is it makes no sense. One would receive the refund as.. a travel pass.. because that was the original form of payment. Entirely consistent imo.

And those somehow being upset about the change to TP I see it as an ABSOLUTE improvement over flight credits.

credits were so restricted in use - eg could not be used for multicity(easily), had original fare type restrictions (this forcing equal or higher value to be spent and in some cases forcing a higher fare class) and generally a PITA to use.

a travel pass is a virtual CC of sorts I guess, or like a gift card(but not the QF Gift Voucher sort) that has a cash value but about the only restriction on use being the currency it is in (ie AUD). None of those fare restrictions or anything from the original credit voucher are attached to these things.

OK you may not be getting that original cash back, but compared to a flight credit I'd take a TP in all but one case that I can think of.

(that one case being if a credit from a flight cancel associated with a promo such as DSC which would be lost when converted to a TP and I could understand that being a loss for some.

In general though I absolutely agree a travel pass is a actual real improvement by QF (one of very few in recent times).

imo

Noting that I has a old style flight credit converted to a travel pass, and was offered the option of having DCs applied or bonus points. I took the DSCs of course, so no worries about losing the DSC as they can be tied to the TP.

With the additional benefit that if you book a flight that is less than TP value, those DCs also apply the the next flight which you partially pay with the balance of the TP.

I didn’t make the original booking with TP but in pre Covid days.
Now that Qantas the international airline that doesn’t go anywhere internationally I am having to use other airlines that go somewhere I want into travel to.
I am also looking forward to cutting ties with Qantas that I have been shackled to all these years, and if my experience thus far today with their call centres when I was attempting to book a flight, it is time I did cut the chains.
In the past I was only too happy to support the Kangaroo but I don’t particularly like the one way street that they offer in no service when even trying to book a flight.

If the original flight was a fully flexible fair you would have had the option of a refund to the original payment method i.e credit card. If it was a sale or discount fare the default method prior to October 2020 was a flight credit (good for 12 months). If the credit didnt suit you needed to request a refund to origial payment form at the time Qantas cancelled the original flight (back in 2020) and before the original departure date, not now 2 years later.

When Qantas converted unused flight credits to a TPs last Oct/Nov, they actually extended the expiry to 31/12/22 in recognition there was limited chance to travel in 2020 and 2021.

You do not need to call Qantas to book a flight using the TP, you can do it online; and it can be used for QF operated or partner operated flights provided you ook through QF.

Im not sure why you think QF doesnt fly internationally, they have resumed flights to UK (although JFK flights are pending), USA, Fiji, NZ, Thailand, South Africa, Singapore and India. Its true flights to Chile and Bali havent resumed. QF is certainluy flying to more international destinations than the other Australian airline Virgin.

QF will be resuming more international routes in the coming months, so plenty of time to still use your TP.

Irrespective of the airline if you want to be guranteed a full refund you need to book fully flexible fares.

Does anybody know if Qantas has extended the expiry date of Travel Passes from 12/22 ?

The deal back then was to be able to book any flight but we have been in lockdown since then and barely getting out of lockdown.

I had bookings in Feb but they have all been cancelled and all the money will be refunded back to the TP...

no change has been made. I doubt they will tbh. with everything opening and such there are many options to use them. I have used a few with the current sale now on.

With 10 months still to make a booking with the TP no reason to think they will extend further given all borders open except WA and they are supposedly opening up in early March.

I have a bucket of flight credits and Qantas Passes (is that different?) which all show expiry 31 Dec 2023. I never asked for any of the Qantas Passes, all were previously flight credits which got arbitrarily converted a few months back - except when they didn't.

Cheers skip

Yeah, the passes are UATP stored credit. Some of us got 10% (or more bonus credit) etc

I still have 2 TP with DSC attached to it but I read in the other topic you still have to harass them to have the bonus SC credited into your account as it's not automatic

Not true in every case. Mine posted just fine. It took near a month but it did happen without any intervention. Just depends when they run the batches.

Seems like a new feature that I just received notification emails from QF regarding redemptions of TPs that were made a few days ago (by me). A nice little check for use of the TPs if unauthorised there's a notification now it seems when redeemed.

OK the enhancement has gone a bit too far now. Today I just received the FOURTH set of emails for the same TP use in the past 2-3 days. Thanks QF. I mean yes I appreciated the notification the TP was used and all, but I did not need to know four times :D

Good olf QF... so consistently inconsistent(tm) - they either shower you with info or you get nada.
