My wife and I are embarking on our first long trip (OWA) in August for 3 months. As I am 66 and she is 82 (turning 83) during the trip) travel insurance costs have always been of keen interest. Individually, her premium is well over double mine, and no health issues! Healthier than many people half her age on flights but that's insurance actuaries for you.

In preparation, we looked at all the usual names. We have gone with Covermore before and their site is a nightmare to manage. I don't remember exactly why we discounted the other firms that get mentioned at times, although there was generally some exclusion that affected us, or cost.

We use QANTAS Health Assure and have always absolutely loved it and were today pleasantly shocked today to discover that Qantas O/s Travel Insurance was highly competitive plus there are significant bonus points offered until early April.

Because of the age difference, there are separate policies but if something happens to one, the other is also covered.

My question is whether you have any specific feedback (good and bad about the QANTAS Travel insurance before we make any commitment.

Thanks!

You need to compare what is covered and for how much per claim, not just the premiums. It's easy to charge a low premium if all the cover is capped at low amounts or has other restrictions.

Get a quote from Southern cross travel. We got an annual policy with 90 day trip limit. We are 71 and 76. cost was just over $3000 with heart and joint cover.

Thnx. Yes - Just had a look. It's pretty much apples and apples and about $400 more. But it's a really good comparative check.

Yep. Understood. So far I haven't spotted a difference in the offerrings

The thing that we liked about SCTI was it was easy to do an online claim and the money was back in our account in 3 days.

I used Qantas Insurance in 2018. Back then the underwriter was QBE. Was very well looked after when needed.

However, QBE sold their travel insurance business to NIB. Haven't used them with the new underwriter so can't comment on current situation.

Good feedback though. Thankyou. Yes we have the Q health insurance and it’s the best we have ever had. Service is fabulous and it is also with NIB

Just thought I would update and say we chose Qantas Travel insurance. As there are two ages (over & under 70) there are two distinct policies but the price was inline (or better) than the alternatives and certainly worked for us. That, coupled with the excellent service we have received from QANTAS Health Insurance with claims (it's all managed by NIB) and the points, it wasn't a hard choice.
