Qantas to release thousands of Classic Reward seats in Y, PE, J, F on 24 Feb 2023 around 11am

I started searching at 10:45am and almost gave up after 2 hours of constant 500 errors but somehow was able to get 2X J SYD-DFW for the end of October.

Thought I had no hope of getting a return but then got 2X J DFW-SYD 2 weeks later. E tickets arrived within 5 minutes.

Very excited to visit my family in Chicago and just in time for Halloween. 🎉

I was out and about while all this happened, and was guessing another QF IT sh!tshow would occur. I don't know why they try on these promos in the hopes of generating goodwill. Looks like for every happy camper there are 500 infuriated and frustrated..

This morning nothing worked.
This evening managed to get my redemption on the day that I wanted, JNB-SYD on 18-11-23 business class. Not that I expect much in Qantas business these days. The last time I flew in Qantas J was to Tokyo in 2014 - and the product was to say the least underwhelming.
SQ had seats for the day after until earlier this week.
Felt like there were better value deals but this was better than nothing.
Now I just have to avoid being another victim in Johannesburg!

In fairness to Qantas though they do offer a top tier lounge (operated by Emirates) at SYD and other airports around the world!

So was finally able to get a change done today around 10 mins ago, and my booking now has a QF leg on it.

I've been checking Check My Trip and this is the first time that my trip does not have an e-ticket number on any legs after a flight change.

I have to say I'm a bit nervous as my trip has 6 legs altogether and I have changed the trip before on 2 occasions, but none of the legs were on QF (maybe that's why e-tickets are issued quicker?).

I've heard of some posters having to wait a while for an e-ticket if there is a QF leg.

Fingers and toes crossed all is okay and an e-ticket number is issued soon. I wonder if the e-ticketing team are still working now (11:30pm AEDST)?

Hi everyone , I need some help here. I’ve got a OWA business ticket MEL to KUL via perth, then KUL to Tokyo. Then Tokyo back to HK. HK back to Mel. I originally went through KUL cos there was no availability to go straight to Tokyo but now that more reward seats opened up there’s business class tickets that goes straight from Mel to Tokyo and I need to call to change my booking. Rest of the trip via HK is fine . Going direct actually means less points and less taxes.
Question for everyone
1) do I get a refund for those taxes and points paid ?
2) do I have to pay the 5,000 change fee per person ? Given I can’t change it myself online via manage booking
3) what are the chances I get an agent that won’t stuff this up when I call?
I had multiple issues with ticketing this and finally got the e ticket right.

1) If the new fees and taxes is lower, then yes you can get a refund.

2) You will need to pay the 5,000 pt change fee regardless. It's the phone assistance fee you can waive off because it can't be done online. (Changes that are possible to do online are still charged the 5,000 point fee).

3) Depends on which call centre you get...

Thank you …. I just called and they told me they can’t change me to the reward flight that is clearly available online. Anyone else experience this? I’ve given them the flight number, exact route, everything. I don’t think I can be any clearer than this. I might just have to call again tomorrow and hope I get another call centre

Fairly common response unfortunately. You got a dud agent. HUCA. It can definitely be done. It’s potluck however whether you get someone who can do it properly. Also there’s a very high risk if you still have MH segments on your new itinerary. They will auto cancel within a few hours when (not if) Qantas fail to ticket in a timely manner.

In your position - and if I had sufficient miles in my account - I’d be tempted to snap up the Tokyo flight you saw before it goes and build a new booking around that to your other destinations and then once it’s ticketed, just cancel the old booking and wear the 6000 point cancellation fee. (Note that it might take up to 3 months to see your original points and taxes back…)

This approach that may not be practicable in your situation or you might not be able to find suitable flights apart from that MEL-HND one you want. In which case you need to persist with the call centre to amend the original trip, knowing that you’re going to have to chase Qantas constantly until it’s ticketed.

Why. the Americans and brits will be on their sites taking all the cream off the top as well. Just when you think QFF can't get any worse it proves you wrong again. What a fiasco I am reading here.

Agreed. with most American Airlines moving to dynamic pricing most of their Premium seats are for their own members. Maybe Qantas should restrict First Class to its own customer program much like Singapore does with Krisflyer, Airfrance, Lufthansa, Swiss etc.

I think a lot of the 500 errors yesterday was simply the fact people were booking itineraries in real time and the availability was disappearing between selecting a flight and progressing to the next page! Once I found flights a little bit later in the year everything came up and worked smoothly for booking. Quite surprising.

Qantas. Good different.

AA do not seem to offer any J or F, or even W class international seats to the QF system. If so, just why does QF offer anything other than Y international seats to the AA system?

How are you seeing this calendar view of availability @snabbu? I know you can. I just for the life of me can't recall how to get that view...I only see the one with 6 days' availability...

Use Multi-city then choose 'flexible with dates for all flights' to see the month view. Once you search this way, you can never go back to regular search.

Perhaps I'm missing something here but I ain't seeing any extra award flights from Uncle Alan's massive release of seats. I'm currently looking for SYD > DFW in mid-August and DFW > SYD in mid-August and there's no classic economy award seats. Similarly, I'm looking at late March for a trip to HBA and again ain't seeing any classic award flights crop up for the dates I'm looking. Perhaps more seats will be released, but colour me unimpressed by this alleged massive dump of award seats.

you want to go and leave in mid-Aug? I'm seeing some there and back for that month. I'm only LBSYD-DFW.pngDFW-SYD.png

Has anyone else had this experience? I've been unable to login since getting dozens of error 500 notices yesterday during login. Had an hour on the phone with someone overseas this morning with no solution except to clear history etc. Tried on my computer, my wife's computer and my iphone. No success. Qantas promised to call me back later today. I'm not holding my breath.

I keep getting the message below.
