Qantas to release thousands of Classic Reward seats in Y, PE, J, F on 24 Feb 2023 around 11am

Yea ppl could just book those CX seats anytime. It's not like there's additional CX seats released by Qantas today.

The biggest thing released today by Qantas is the '500 error'.😂😂
not really - seems like there were CX seats being released today. Been trying to find a CX Award seat from MEL-HKG and nothing came up until this morning :/

One got ticketed but not for the 3 tickets that I booked

Agree. I am not sure if it is coincidence or not. CX syd/bne-hkg award were not there until today, which I booked.

I could not see them in AA and AS search engines, but could see in QF.

I have been looking since 2-3 weeks ago with CX seats to SIN /HKG and there was an abundance at least for the times I have been booking. I booked a week ago and I noticed I have had the same ticketing issues everyone else had today. For me it really depended who you got on the phone because I called Qantas (luckily wait time was only 10 mins) about the ticketing issue and it wasn't until my third call that the lady on her end went through Cathay and got it ticketed right away. Wouldn't hurt for people to ask if they are already calling anyways to see if they can notify Cathay for the reward booking.

Definitely a lot of CX out of SYD for a couple of weeks. I helped a friend books some flights to Europe a fortnight ago using pts to HKG. They were also showing up in my searches for SYD-SIN and SYD-BKK etc. That‘s not to say CX haven’t released more - which would be an extraordinary coincidence!

I mean - they could have. Qantas told everyone exactly when they'd release seats, and therefore exactly when there would be thousands more people looking for award seats at the same time. CX may have thought, hmm, all these eyeballs, let's take advantage.

After playing around for quite some time, I was able to get 2 business class seats from LHR to SYD on QF2 (and then to Brisbane) for 5 September. Confirmation and e-ticket came through only an hour or two after. But the website was a schmozzle.

We will work out later how to get to Europe!

Probably some milk run in Economy I suspect!

The awards I was looking for was around Christmas. It was completely dry until this morning. I know CX regularly released seats on non-super peak period.

Hey, hey, come on now.

They hired them once in the early 90s and are still using that system to this very day, refusing to ever update it.
I vaguely recall going to a job interview with them in mid-80's and wasn't successful and I knew some of the people interviewing. Obviously wasn't good enough.

This advice actually made my day! I managed to get on to a very experienced and helpful agent in CPT on my subsequent call who helped me get the F seats I wanted to add to a pre-existing booking, triple checked everything while I was on the phone and promised to get it sent for ticketing right away because he knew and understood legs would drop off otherwise. He called back twice in the following hours: once to say "rest assured, it's being processed" and again to say it had been re-ticketed. It's the level of service that should be the rule, not the exception. So the great reward seat bonanza worked in my favour today, no thanks to the website. Only thanks to reaching the one in 10 or one in 50 agents who actually have adequate skill, training and commitment to get it right. I know that there are literally thousands of people who will have had a very sour taste left in their mouth thanks to QF today

Does anyone think there is likely to be further release of seats related to this 'drop' or is this it? Notably one destination that I never could find any reward seat availability for was JFK on the new SYD-AKL-JFK QF3 operated route.

Why. the Americans and brits will be on their sites taking all the cream off the top as well. Just when you think QFF can't get any worse it proves you wrong again. What a fiasco I am reading here.

I knew Qantas was going to have issues today. Little did I know how much I was going to get screwed over 😞

Qantas have said it they are releasing seats ' progressively', so expect to go through all this some other time again.

So I think the glut of the seat drops were on a few limited routes, mainly LAX / LHR / SIN today

What I have noticed is minimal QF seat drops on HND/ICN/HKG in peak seasons (much less so than say LAX/SIN). If seats were released, more often then not they are on JQ.

There are a sprinkling of QF seats in non-peak seasons (e.g. nothing from 2nd week of Dec or school holidays) out of HND, but this is a sprinkling at best.

So I do think the total numbers of seats released are masked by the fact that JQ fly a number of asian routes? Am I being cynical in this regard?

Can’t believe reading this thread, it’s like torture cough. I feel sorry for everyone who has tried valiantly and lost today.
Qantas should have restricted this release of seats to only their FF members for at least a few days or a week, before releasing into the OneWorld network. The idea that other airlines members have scooped up a heap of seats because their websites actually work is like salt in the wound.
Increasingly I wonder if this points game is even worth it.

Sure does. Quite a sleight of hand it seems. Why am I not surprised? Am I unreasonable to think that more QF flights could mean it may be easier to get back to Australia any other way than via Jetstar (no use for an OWA) or via Timbuctoo and Jetstar?

Suva call centre agent I just spoke with seemed quite confident that more international seats would be released, citing the booking errors seen earlier today. Make of that what you will (if anything), but my optimism tells me we aren't quite done yet with this 'release'.

Uh oh. Sounds like we have a similar problem gojun. I’ve already cancelled my pe flights based on confirmed e ticket from qantas. Will be interesting to see where this goes

I called Cathay and they said they can't cancel the tickets as it's not issued by them. So then I called Qantas back and they said this is a known issue and they are sending a batch request to Cathay Pacific to ask them to re-instate the tickets as e-tickets have already be sent out.

I really don't know who to believe now. Do I book another flight? Do I wait for these muppets or am I better off going to the Airport Customer Service desk and ask someone local for help?

I asked for a reference number or something to follow up on and they said they can't provide anything, fills me with plenty of confidence this will be resolved.
