Just showing my abysmal ignorance, but this reinforces my argument that QF "enhancements" are poor when compared with their competitors.

And yet they probably have the best FL gloablly in Syd and Mel. Agree there is an inconsistancy. Those deceions were made during the gold rush and would not be made today, so you need to take into account the economics of the day.

Cheers
SPRUCE:eek:

QF has installed nice F suites in their A380 aircraft. Not much point doing so in 747 with current decline in demand for premium cabins. They have installed horizontal beds in A380 business class. And they have installed a very good Premium Economy product in A380 and 747 aircraft. I don't see these as "poor compared with their competitors". Note that their competitors are not applying their new cabin products unilaterally across their entire fleets, but only into certain portions of their fleets, like QF is doing. Given the current low demand for F and J travel and the strong demand for Y+ and Y, it would seem that QF's investment in enhancements is somewhat well aligned with the current demand. This appears to me as responsible stewardship of shareholder resources (I am not a shareholder) in the current environment.

Well, I am excited to say I will be trying the lounge out mid November. I'm not sure if I will fit in taking photos, I will try to dress like a "kwai lo" :D so I don't get abused in 中國話 !!

there is nothing wrong with photo taking in lounges ;) and you won't get abused by anyone - you rightly deserve to be there just like anyone else.

come back and report back with photos ;) like my previous trip to an airport lounge, see here

Yes I really LOVED reading it and seeing the photos Alanslegal :) I am travelling with someone unaccustomed to taking photos in lounges, Flounging etc, so she may find it strange :)

I agree Alan - it was a great "lounge report", and one I will not follow sitting here in the SKL in SIN as I don't think I could do it justice. Although I will say the scale of the place (that is the J side) is amazing.

I can't see the new QF lounge in HKG being anywhere near as big, but it will be interesting to see how far QF go in the post-GFC world when doing up the lounge.

The main benefit of the BA/QF lounge is the fact that it is near the BA/QF check in desks and the likely gates for QF flights. The Wing is much further away.

Is it? My last QF flight was Gate 25, same distance from QF/BA or Wing.

Gate 25? I have never seen a QF aircraft on that side of the terminal. In recent months they have been using the even numbers gates between 20 and 28. Not that it make any difference in the distance from the respective lounges.

Agree, thou there was a stage 8 typhon going on, so I think they were parking where they could. Most planes departures were being delayed.

I haven't gone out of 15 - 19 sine 2008.

That could certain explain it. Things get hairy when the Typhoons signal gets to 8.

Just had a flick through my passport. Since July this year I have arrived into HKG 8 times and departed HKG 7 times (one guess where I am now) so 15 times through the airport. Each time all QF aircraft were along the even numbered 20-28 gates.

I was in HKG about 10 days ago for about 6 hours, so tried every OW lounge ;)

The QF/BA FL lounge was rather tired, yes however it won in one area - much better Champagne (Pol Roger) than the CX FL lounges (Lanson).... :)

(although the winner has to be LHR BA FL three weeks ago - the unlimited help-yourself bottles of Bollinger Grande Annee were very nice thanks..) :D

BA T5 F lounge has the Bolly. Used to be 1999, now they're serving the 2000. I presume T3 F lounge (when it opens, or it may already be open) will also have Bolly.

I can't recall what dribble is in the Qantas/BA Lounge in T4.

I thought having 6 or 8 different beers to choose from at the BA J LHR T5 lounges any time was pretty good; but the Bollinger wins. where is the jealous smiley.

From the Q website
New Business Lounge opens in Hong Kong

Qantas has opened its new Business Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport, offering new levels of comfort and design. The new lounge is now consistent with other Qantas International Business Lounges around the world, aligning signature design elements and features.
Located on Level 5 of the Hong Kong International Terminal (entrance via Level 6), the new lounge features increased seating and shower facilities, enhanced food, beverage and entertainment options, and additional workstations. The lounge will also offer complimentary wireless access.
Entry to level 6 of the Hong Kong International Terminal building is via a lift or escalator opposite Gate 15. The new lounge is available to Qantas Business customers, Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyers, Qantas Club members and all eligible oneworld passengers travelling on a oneworld marketed or operated flight.

I am glad to see its consistant with other QF lounges and about time but will be in time for my trip next year.

Hope someone can add some photo's and commentary soon:)

i will check it out next Saturday depending on what gate i fly into from Fuzhou. Have a connection to Bangkok.. If not week after coming back to China.. Have to say though, it would want to be good compared to CX FLounge.. I love their day rooms,, great for sleeping off a hangover...
