Qantas to introduce hot meals and hot snacks on most domestic flights, extends tea and coffee service

I remember early morning SYD-CBR AN flights where they did a hot breakfast and tea/coffee. On one such remember the Captain said the flying time was 22 minutes. Still don't know how they managed it, or if they were a 727 or one of the new 737s.

Probably cost a bomb for a flexible fare, but I wasn't paying :)

Cheers skip
Ah yes, the early morning foil wonder packages - you always wondered what you were going to get when you peeled back the foil. From memory it was usually sausage, tomato, something green, all held together with egg like a weird frittata. It seemed to be standard fare across all of the domestic, national and state based airlines.

Sounds like breakfast you get now in Y on trans-Tasman flights.

A welcome move. The introduction of hot meals and hot snacks on more flights combined with existing fast-free wifi and complimentary seatback/BYO IFE content is unheard of on short-haul flights in the UK, US and EU. This new move certainly places the QF short haul soft product equivalent or even better than that of Asian and ME carriers on their short haul flights.
Yes but not on a tray and wooden cutlery. Fly EK or QR see difference.

Yeah, flexible fares cost a fortune back then, but the meal service was the same for everyone. Not like now with all the low-cost logic.

I can still remember how the cabin of a TAA 727 or DC9 smelled when everyone started rolling back the foil on their breakfast surprise!

I also remember a tip to the US when I was 7 or 8 and being surprised that even on longish domestic flights (the old Republic Airlines) we got given a tiny packet of sunflower seeds to eat and probably fizzy drinks to go with it. Even as a kid that felt underwhelming compared to what we had in Australia.
