Qantas to ground some US flights

Didn't realize that about AA booking me into 1st - although do they have lay flat seats - it's the LA to NY leg that I find harder than Melb to LA for some reason.

EWR for 2 reasons - the first being that on this trip, I'm taking a few days off before my meetings and staying with a friend in New Jersey for a few days; the second is that I'm staying in lower Manhattan and it should be much quicker to get from there to Newark than to LGA. However, if AA, I'd pick LGA over JFK any day of the week. I have had some nightmare trips from NYC to JFK - taking almost 3 hours in standstill traffic and thinking I was going to be blocked from checking in.

Can someone tell me how they've found immigration/customs in DFW and the transition to domestic - is it a better system than LAX? do you need to change terminals? is there a train/people mover or is it like LAX...a chance to stretch your legs whether you want to or not...

Just be sure that you fly on an AA flight number, not on the QF codeshare. The former will give you First Class points and SC's. The latter would be classed a J (Business).

So it's the same price - meaning cost of QF codeshare business flight from DFW to NY = cost of same flight in first class but with AA flight number from DFW to NY?

I don't know if our corporate travel booker will get this, but I'll give it a go if it is true.

Yes it is, you can book MEL LAX in I class and then A class on AA for LAX-DFW-LGA-DFW-LAX comes in at AUD9400 published fare. Trip nets you 840 SC's

If your ticket on the AA flight books into F, A or P classes then you will earn first class SC's.

Note that if on a QF codeshare flight number (on the same flight) then it books into business class (J, D, I) (even though you are in the same physical cabin and get the same service) and Business class points/SC's are earned.

Here's an example, QF has a codeshare flight on AA metal from DFW to BOS. Below is the fare bucket availability for the same actual flight.

While Qantas do sell First class (F/A), AA do not sell business class (J/C/D/I). Generally booking onto the QF flight number one would be in J/C/D/I.

If QF decide to cut back on the routes to/from the US, could that entice AA to return to Trans Pac flying.

This is a great tip which I managed to take advantage of this year SYD-LAX-MIA-MCO rtn. Had all flights booked through QF with 081 ticket no. Asked TA to change all QF/AA codeshares to AA flight nos.
Caveat Emptor:
Keep all boarding passes until SC's posted, my AA flights posted with an amusing mix of F/J and discount whY.
Called QF and submitted BP's and adjustments made to reflect F SC's
:)

Everyone! You have been taken in by no news again. QF issued a memo today denying the contents of the media hype.

Seriously, no news needs to be taken to task...

I'll be watching QF routing to the US closely. I'm QFF Gold for Life, and will usually make Platinum on domestic flying alone. I wouldn't fly Jetstar to the US in star class, and would rather build up status in another loyalty program than fly AA. Years after US airlines embarked on a dramatic cost-cutting spree (compared with Asian and Mid Eastern airlines), Qantas seems hell-bent on another race to the bottom.
