Hi guys
Slightly weird request but for my sons Xmas present I have got him business class reward seats upstairs on the 747 on one of its rare domestic jaunts between Syd and Melb (positioning flight for QFs flights over Antarctica)! He is going to lose his mind as he is 747 mad and has been known to break down crying because he won’t get to fly on the 747s before they disappear (ok dad may be a bit excited too as I have never been on one either...QF if you read this PLEASE don’t do an equipment swap :s).
Anyway, although this is going to be very exciting when we travel (31/12/19!).. for Xmas all he will receive is tickets printed from online). It seems airlines have done away with the cardboard ticket holders that you used to slip your tickets into but if anyone has an old one I figured it would be even more exciting for him to open an envelope and see that red cardboard with the white kangaroo! Couldn’t find any on eBay (just really old plastic ones from the 50s-70s) or at the travel agents we have asked at... if anyone has one lying around in a drawer and would be willing to give it away/sell it for a few dollars that would be amazing!
Thanks guys

Hey Jobeki111,

I don't have any lying around. However you can try popping into the airport and asking for one. I'm sure if you tell them your story they maybe able to help out. If you are there I would recommend to see if you can get a blank business class boarding ticket to write a personalised message on.

That would be the icing on the cake. :)

oooh haven't seen one for a few years. Last I recall getting was ex-LHR in F. These days more boarding pass holders.

Have you tried looking on gumtree or ebay?

I love the idea it's very sweet as is the gift and either way I hope you both enjoy your trip on "The Queen" on NYE! :D

Have you thought about calling up the reservations team and asking if a message can be inserted on the boarding pass, I am not sure how wide spread this is however some with higher status have be able to get short messages added to boarding passes.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This was my thought - I have received such boarding pass holders at F checkin.
I have searched through drawers of post-trip junk but I can't find any of them.
You could try popping in to SYD or MEL and asking at the F counter but no idea of their reaction.
I'll keep looking when I have a moment as (embarrassingly) i tend to keep junk like this!
Although from memory they were white not red.

I too will have a look when I get home.

I used to have an AN gold/F one (showing my age!)... but I think I eventually gave up on even that :)

Yup those are exactly the sort I remember from a few F flights.. but have not seen any for a few years. Probably enhanced....

By the way which seats were you able to select?

Sadly, the F BP holders have indeed been “enhanced”. I have asked at check in and various lounges over the past year or so (?) and staff have rummaged through cupboards for old stock, without success.
The - highly implausible, in my opinion - reason given for the phase out was lack of customer demand. Personally, I always found them most useful.
Hope one of the searches mentioned in posts above is successful.
:)

We were able to select 16K and J at the time of booking (upstairs at the back). I have no status with QF so many were blocked out for gold/plat and higher. When I go into the change seats option now, however, it says you can’t select seats on this flight. It still shows our seats as 16K and J in the app so I’m hoping we don’t get moved!

Good luck!
I did a similar thing to fly BNE-SYD with my son a few years ago and we sat upstairs.
It is an experience!

Hi KSC... I bought about this but the price is a bit higher than I wanted to pay as I don’t think he will get much use out of it yet (he’s 7).... and points wise it’s a comparable spend to the business reward flight ;)
Lucky 7 year old. Was imagining someone in the 20’s-30’s. Hahah.
At that age I would be over the moon with the model airplane :)
I think the boarding pass holder would look pretty decent.
