Qantas Terminal @ SYD security breach

I'm on QF925, the scheduled 1.10pm service CNS-SYD. We've been parked at the gate for an hour due to a "minor engineering issue". The good news is that the backlog at SYD is expected to clear by the time we get in and the crew has been pouring us drinks and providing nuts so it's better being stuck here than on the apron at SYD :).

(Also my five year old was just invited into the coughpit by the captain and I was able to take some photos...so it's worked out pretty well so far :)

Way to go!

A simple question if I may. How do they know that 2 people "breached security"? If they were seen to go in the wrong way, stop them and prevent the chaos. If they weren't seen, how do they know? Or am I missing something?

I was windering this - how come they can detect them but not stop them.

Or is it a case that they detect them sometimes, and this is actually happening more often?

I guess they pick it up when looking at video cameras - so the desk jockey in security flicks from camera/screen to camera/screen and sees two people walking in the out calls the rentacops who waddle towards where they were spotted and by that time the spritely young offenders are sipping lattes in Starbucks.

When going through security this morning the guy that stands at the metal detector came and grabbed me just as I was about to leave and said "Sorry mate, had my back turned to you before, can you walk through again please?"

He was obviously aware of what happened in Sydney.
