Qantas Sydney International Business Lounge

I was enroute to YVR, depature was 3am YVR local so I was hoping to grab "dinner" in SYD before the flight and skip the onboard meal in favour of sleep time to align with my destination. WRONG!
And what happened? Oh, so no grub to be found at that time of night?

Maybe they'll start doing it on the tarmac.

Although I'd rather they commandeered VH's office in Mascot then bussed everyone out.

Cut down the fat, and I imagine the cash saved would probably mean there was more than enough to pay to accommodate everyone while QF J is being refurbished...

(Yes, I am a cynic)
Sign used to happen over in the offices off Burke Road, and then the crews were bused over to the terminals. But, some genius worked out that you could save some $ by pushing the time taken to actually get into the terminal from the QF sheet on to the crew themselves...by simply moving sign in into the terminal and so after security/passports, etc. That added to the disconnect between the fleet management and the crews, as most of the managers stayed put in their old offices, and so never had any contact with the people working for them.

The First cupboard was at concourse level, and you'd turn left from reception to it. Business was to the right and down the escalator overlooking gate 31.

Both were closed after they built the mezzanine first/business lounges over gates 9 and 10 before the 2000 Olympics. (Although in 2006 they reopened that downstairs area as a temporary First lounge while building the current one.)
Thank you! I read the article and knew I had been to that downstairs area, but couldn’t remember when. Now I get it. Got invited to the first lounge and found myself in that downstairs area. Not really that glamorous. lol

I assumed we had a thread for this but the last one is so old it’s been locked.

I had a quick peek in the J. Lounge today and saw the signs saying a refurb is coming.

On return to the F lounge I was chatting with Nestor he said it’s starting in October and will be closed for over a year. He said they’re not sure were they’re going to put everyone, they have a temporary space for 150 but it won’t be big enough.
Qantas should rent the Emirates biz lounge outside of its usual operating hours. Problem solved. But that would involve Qantas shelling out some of its shareholders’ dollars.
